I am going to take the carpet out of my Jeep to put some sort of lining on the inside. Does anyone have any GOOD suggestions? Want to try and do it myself since its just a hunting rig!

here's what I did...
1. remove seats
2. remove carpet
3. cut and fit metal to replace interior walls in the back, riveted them in
4. go to home depot or lowes or some hardware place
5. find roll in liner you like
6. roll it on and replace seats when dry

Worked out great for me. just be aware that the colors will dry somewhat different from how they look in the store.

ROFL, avoid any hootus contact while applying bedliner. That story still cracks me up.

Be sure to follow the directions for prepping the surface, most roll-ins require you to scuff the hell out of the surface, then wipe it down with Naptha, or a similar metal-prep solvent.

I was SO close to forgetting that story! Dam you.

Am actually doing mine this weekend. Already have everything stripped out and prepped. That's a good point about the inspection cover for the tranny, I'd overlooked that.

A better quality product will yield a thicker finish and therefore better replace some of the sound deadening properties that the 1-1/2" of carpet and factory underlay offered.

by the way, if you get it at chucks/checker/kragen, you can usually get a $20 rebate, so it ends up being $60 per kit

Cool

I just replaced the rear panels with sheet metal (14 guage, a little too thick!!). Next I plan on removing the carpet and other items from the floor of the interior and then put down some lining. I hope it works as well as it did for youg guys.

You can use a $15 undercoating gun to spray it in yourself to, (try Harbor Freight). It will give a thicker and more professional sprayed type finish to it compared to rolling it on, and it goes on so much faster. I've done the roll on Herculiner before on a truck bed, but next time I'm using a gun instead.

I really like the duraback do it your self bedliner. I did one of my YJ's with that and it want on great and lasted without a problem untill the day I sold it. I also used the herculiner and the duraback was much better IMO.

My room mate and I have both considered doing this. My only complaint with some bed liners is that they are pretty thin and extremely rough. Line-x for instance. I don't know, these may only be local names :-p There are some other liners that seem more rubbery, yet very strong. That's what I would prefer, so that if I'm lying on my back or shoulder rewiring something I can barely reach, I don't look like I was trying to slide across asphault when I'm done. Any brand specific opions would be great! Thanks guys!

don't use undercoating. that's ghetto.

I had a wag with herculiner all through it, it was nice. great stuff when applied properly. I've also seen the durabak come out very nice. I'll be using durabak with the UV resistance additive to do the roof and shortbed area on my wag once I cut the roof off and make it a crew cab, unless I can con line-X into spraying it really cheap.

I used the Dupli-color bedliner on the inside of the j10, and basicly did exactly what TheWag did. It was very easy to apply and came out looking great.

I can get some photos today if you like.

One thing that I found with the Dupli-color...use the heavy rust primer from Rustoleum on trouble spots. The vinyl coating will stick better on rust properly primed. IMO

That's something I've been wondering too. What surface is best for the liner to stick to? Paint? Bare metal? Primed metal? Water it is, paint or sound dampening from under the carpet is kinda funky. Plus there are a couple places in the back where I must have spilled something that started to eat it? *shrugs* I guess short question. What does it stick to best, besides hands.

Perhaps I need to re-phrase my question. Has anyone used spay-on bedliner on the undercarriage of a Jeep?
