I don't know which one to do. The Klune would obviously give more versatility. My problem is that I have a NOS Jeep factory ramsey PTO winch kit, if I go with the Klune I can easily make a longer driveshaft for the PTO, but the linkage to engage the winch would be under the seat. I think the Klune unit is a little under 7 inches long. The tera-low would be easier but not much improvement in low gears.
This is going in my 73 J2000 shortbed thriftside with Buick 455/T18a/d20. Haven't decided on tire size yet but probably in the 40 inch range. Dana 60/FF 14 bolt axle combo running 4:10.

PTO linkage can be modified... no sweat...
but I would go Klune V... but NOT with a D20... I plan on a Klune V 2.7:1.... but I will hold off until I get a NP205... I really dont think ( cuz I dont know) that the D20 will hold up to a reduction unit... I dont want to chance it. IF you go with either of them... we need to know how it holds up...

you are going to have to do something either way,as the d20 pan style PTO runs off of the low range portion if the intermediate gear. if you install terra low gears, your PTO will no longer work
it should be easy enuff to fab a new shifter for the PTO,but id tend to agree with RB that its not a good use of $$ to do the klune with a d20,comsidering youll have to adapt it to the tranny and to the t case.
the extra leverage will twist off tailsahfts frequently with the size/ weight and traction of 40" tires.
if you want to have confidence in your drivetrain, the best solution would be a ford 435/klune/chevy 205
the ford 435 will easily adapt to your amc motor. the chevy 205 will need to be a late model with a 32 spline female input. you should be able to order the lkune with a 31 spline input, and the 32 spline output so no adapting will be needed
now all you have to do is sell or trade your d20 pto for one that will fit the 205.
my $.02 anyway

didn't know about the tera-low and the PTO, Thanks
I plan on running the AA 32 spline d20 output shaft

thats a good upgrade to the D20... but your money can be better spent on a NP205 to ensure that the exteme torque will be handled... just trying to save you money in the long run...
like I said before... I am NOT SURE if the D20 will hold to the multiplied torque...

i do not think it will. after breaking 5 spicer 18s with my 6 cyl,a t18,and 38s i am pretty sure that once you beef up the tailsafht you will break the gears,and/or crack/break the housing or possibly break front output shafts
sorry for the confusion on the motor,im pretty sure thw right bell will adapt a 435 to the buick engine as easily as it does to an amc.
if you do go the klune/d20 route keep us advised of how well it holds up

My concerns and questions are:
Can I get a PTO for the NP205
Will it align/work with my winch
where do I get both?
If I did get the NP205 what do you think about the t18a/klune/np205 drivetrain? why switch trannies?

yes,you can get a PTO for the 205.
i see no reason it cant be made to work with whatever winch youre running
look for them on ebay and for sale forums. one went for $50 plus shipping on our very own for sale forem just last week
reason i say switch trannies is that it will prolly be cheaper/easier than adapting the klune to the t18,wich will need a new adater and new tailsahft for it to bolt on.
thats just a personal preference on my part,to use as many factory parts as possible(tho in different cominations). that way if something breaks on a wheelin trip far from home, ive got a good cahnce of being able to fix it and keep wheelin. id rather swap in a tranny that the under drive would bolt to,and have that tranny remain stock instead of having to install custom parts in the tranny i run
other than that, the t18 is a good tranny,if youre ok with spending the $$ on the adapters and are capable of rebuilding the tranny to install it,theres nothign wrong with that option at all

thanks for your input
I think I have to go with adapting my t18 because I do not see a way to put in a modern tranny with a buick engine, unless I have a short bellhousing with the shifter in the firewall.
I will be talking with he Klune people tomorrow.
I'm looking at a t18a klune-V np205 setup now.
That should hold up to the built buick 455.

Oh, BTW
I think I will go with an electric winch and maybe a BJs bumper and put the NOS PTo stuff on my 1970. I plan on doing a frame-off on the 70, basically stock, and the factory winch would be a nice touch.
