Frist look in my signature...now how can i build a subframe! I want 4 more inches of lift and my springs and blocks are a bit stretched as it is , so i thought of a subframe i want to fit 44-49s under it i can clear 42s now with a little rub. Does any one have any plans for it and , does any one know where i can get a supercharging kit for a 350 buick.
Thanks

What kind of lift do you have now? are those 7" lift springs (i sure hope you dont have 7" blocks...) or is it a spring over in front, and 4" lift springs with 3" blocks in back, or what?

Also: may want to be looking for a D60 front, and either 35 spline D60 upgrade in back, or a 14FF/D70 in back to keep from snapping axles like pretzels.

I'm gonna say you have plenty of lift, possibly too much, need to bust out hte sawzall.... And get rid of the blocks. Just my opinion, and hope your D44 front holds up with the boggers, and it won't with 44-49s so hope you are in the market for some built tons or bigger....

1. 1979 Wagoneer Widetrack? S?

2. 1979 with a buick 350?

3. 4.38s?

5. 3.5" pipes?

6. 450hp?

id like to hear some more about your rig, sounds truly custom.

hold up there nothin here is bs ... frist off i meant pounds of tourque ,stock the buick 350 that came out of the wagonner came stock with 350 when my dad frist got and put the 350 buick in it dynoed at 230 pounds of tourque and around 365 ft/lbs pounds of tourque thats with 3 1/2 exhaust pipes and headers ...let me put up a site for ya http://www.ifsja.org/tech/figures/engines.shtml second i have a alot more mods for the engine then shown includes modifed 350 edel brock manifold , custom cermaic hearders , port and polish heads and over sized valves.. this is mostly a frakenstein motor that ive moded the parts from bigger blocks with execption of couple diffrent aftermarket parts ... my 3 speed tranny has been build with stronger better gearing yokes and case. my t case is np 205 that i adapted to the 3speed. on the springs i build them at my shop next to my house.. its not hard you just have to have the equip.. i dont pay for any thing to get done to my rig.. its all me. Hydro steering also known hydraluic steering is when you have steering enhancers to help you turn big tires it pushes agianst the steering units kinda like an auto matic push or a super powre steering.. works off aa rock ram hydraluic steering asisant ...lastly why the Dana 90s? Ive seen many big rigs with dana 80s 90s and 125s... please come back with more specific questions , dont waste my time kittys if you dont know how to build a sub frame or have any dumb *** questionms

Hey floater,
I for one would like to see some pics of your rig, and I am sure most others would 2. As of right now all the talk is in the numbers. If you pulled it off, good for you! A picture speaks a thousand words though.

Okay, so why do you need 10" of lift for 39.5" boggers, does that make you "cool" or something? I know myself and many others, if were wanting 39.5" tires wouldn't want 10" of lift, the sawzall can give you plenty of clearance with a lot less lift meaning more stability...

One of the problems we are having, is you can go and build springs, build up a motor, hydro assist, etc, yet you can't figure out how to build a subframe?!?!?! Also, where didya get the 4.38 gears? What kind of 3spd ya got? Whats the buick stroked out to?

Final question for now, do you wheel?

Things that I never knew existed before this thread:

* An Edelbrock intake for the Buick 350
* A D90 rear axle (knew of the Rover by that name, but never heard of the Spicer product with that designation)
* 4.38 gears for a Dana axle
* Steel Mickey-Thompson wheels
* A Widetrack "S" version of the Wagoneer

But as for help with a subframe, I'm afraid I won't be able to tell you much; I've only got 38" tires with SOA and the stock springs.

Here's a page where you might find some examples and ideas about building a subframe:

http://128.83.80.200/taco/scarysteering.html

Good luck!

yikes! dr bob,i wouldnt want to be sitting in that thing when a strong wind came by

on the subframe building,i agree about the lift. if you want to pimp it around town and climb a rope ladder into it,build away. space the body and frame way up there. i saw a chevy at haspin acres once with 2 spaced up frames,way tall,made the 42s look small.had a 6" spring lift,a 3" body lift between frame 1 and frame 2,and another 3" body lift between frame 2 and the body.

that truck was just about the dumbest,most useless thing ive ever seen in my life. all he could do was run thru the mudholes in the open fields,could not actually go on any of the trails great for the "look how big i am" cool factor at cruise ins at the local frishes,but really crappy for any kind of real world trail riding.

nothing wrong with wanting to run 49s,but if your rig is being built to wheel and not just for show, keep lift to a minimum and remove some sheetmetal to fit them

i run 38s with a 3" SUA lift spring and 3" body lift.

my $.02

Yup and as Dr Bob said there are no 4.38 gears for a Dana axle.
The 230hp you dad had dyno'd is BS. 230 is the factory HP rating and back prior to 72 HP was gross hp as in the motor was tested with an external water pump, external oil pump, no alt etc. In 72 the industry changed to more realistic testing using net hp with the engine turning it's own water/oil pump, w/alt, fan etc. It's usually about 30-35% less than gross hp so if your dad really did have it dyno'd he should have gotten around 150hp reading.
