I would like to run some wider belts for my steering and my alt, but the balancer will only take the stock thin belt. The pulley on my alt will take a 5/8 belt, but steering would need a bigger pulley. So does anyone make a balancer and steering pulley that take the next size up belt? Dennis

Why the wider belts? You have the V groove ones right?

Yea, it's just when I turn, my belt looks like it's gonna have a cornary. And squeals. Also, when my fans kick in, the alt belt screems for about 10 seconds. I reading on another board, and thinking about the wag I just sold. It had to belts running on the steering. I know I have extra tracks on my balancer, what about running double belts?

If you get a double pulley for the alt from a FSJ that had A/C you can run double there. No doubles for the steering pump AFAIK...

Adding more belts is going to be the best way to try to solve your problem.
Getting wider belts isn't as big as getting deeper and wider belts. The V sides are what add the majority the force which turns the pulley. Most V's are set up with 36 deg's from side to side, and with this angle the force is more then tripled then a flat belt.
Your other option is to check you tension make sure you have as much as your belts can handle, and make sure they are newer, clean and not glazed or cracking. Good luck...

If the rig had an pollution air pump, it has a double pulley. But are you sure the alt has two pulleys? Just curious? Thanks

The second pully on the PS pump only lines up with the air pump. I don't think it would be easy to get a double belt there.
I am positive that there is a double belt on FSJ's with AC. I have them on my Cherokee. You may have to get the proper balancer pulley too.

I ran double-belts on my PS pump on my Cherokee; all you need is a 3-groove balancer pulley and water-pump pulley and a 2-groove PS pump pulley. Instead of running double-belts on the alternator after I deleted the A/C, I just ran the extra belt on the PS pump.
