hey, i noticed that a lot of you have pictures of your jeeps without the doors on when you are wheeling, but lots of other picks with the doors still on. did you remove the doors permanently, or did you find an easy way to take them on and off? i took my drivers door off once to fix something and had a hell of a time getting it back on correctly so it wouldn't scrape the doorjam.
also, does anyone know of an easy way to make soft-doors or perhaps half doors? my doors suck so much that it would be nice to be able to just take them off when its nice out (i live in seattle, so most of the year i can't drive it without doors because of the weather).
thanks for any advice you guys can give me.

I thought about making some lightweight doors, but ended up just cutting off all my body. But I was thinking of taking some 1" square tubing, real thin wall, cut and rough it in, then weld it together. Then either sheet metal or canvass to for the outside. Maybe put a piece of lexan in the top half. But that was just an idea I had without much thought. Im sure there are better. Dennis

to pull them on and off:
1- replace all torx bolts with regular hex bolts
2- get quick connects for any wires to the door so they can be hooked/unhooked easily
3- have a helper when you install them or use a floor jack to keep the door level. I know some folk have it down to 15 minutes to install their doors, just need some practice

Have a couple thought on this. I am thinking of 1/2 doors, BTW.
1. Borrow a friend's CJ door to use as an example. Get some small round stock or maybe even rebar. Bend and weld up the frame. Use CJ style hinges or fab some by welding small piece of pipe to body and weld piece to door that slide into pipe. Still thinking on the latching mechanism. Once it swings and latches, take it to a upholstery shop to have some sort of canvas fitted and sewn on.
2. Take stock door. Gut it, leaving only latching mechanism. Cut down in middle to a good "armrest" height. Take thin aluminum diamond plating and form over top around then down the inside. Fab CJ type hinges. The idea is to have a stock looking door that is light enough for one person to do the on/off stuff and latches.
Just what I have been tossing around in the noggin'.........

im doing a set of 1/2 doors right now ,myself and will also be swappin the doors on and off with the full doors,, i will prob be eliminating the stock latch on the 1/2 doors, cause they are such a biatch to line up .....i will go with the simple "YJ" style of hood hold down ,,,,,but the rubber ones ,,,
