I am planning on running a built up dana 300 behind my 360/727. I want to use the JB conversions gears and front/rear output upgrades. I was wondering if you think it would be of any use to get the clocking ring. It costs $250 dollars and if I don't need it I don't want to buy it. I am aware that a lift is needed to run it in our rigs, so clocking it up does not sound like a good idea but I am going to be running alot of lift. I am going to be running d60/14ff combo and going spring over with it and the 6" rustys lift I already have. Do you think I might want to or be able to clock it up. I'm just wondering because I would like to leave it down to limit my driveline angle but I would like to get it up out of the way. What do you think is the best way to install it with that much lift.
I was also wondering if you think that it will handle a fresh 360 with some mods and 39.5 inch iroks. I'm also open to any ideas of how to get a cheap bombproof tranny/tcase.

why run 16" of lift to fit 39" tires? There is no point unless you are trying to make it a boulevard cruiser. With that much lift, you will not want to clock the t-case flat as it is. Your going to have a crummy enough pinion angle anyway. Why in the world would you need to get your t-case "out of the way" with that much lift?? It isn't like there is big enough rocks there to catch it....

dude thats a lot of lift i'd run a np208 though not a dana300

bombproof? th400/np205.
w/ SOA (5" to 7") and 6" lift springs, is about 13", would you be keeping your body lift?. thats not that bad for 39's. im running 11"s and do fine. its about how well your springs flex, which with 6"lift springs probably wont flex that much.
RC is right, you shouldnt have to worry too much about clocking w/ that high if a rig.

i'm running about 10" or 11" too. thats why i said 16" is a lot of lift. and i'm pretty **** flexy.

yeah.. go NP205/TH400...you cant go wrong there..
I will have to agree.. you dont need that much lift...but if you want it... GO FOR IT... the sky is the limit....
I was up at 14"... now I am slowly coming down...

i agree with the others,if anything id try to clock him the other way(rotate downward,clockwise viewed from the rear),to help with u joint angles. at any rate you can reclock the t case either direction without spending $250 by either a)drilling/tapping new holes in the d300,or b)redrilling the holes on the adapter.you may not get all 6,due to the way the adapter is shaped at the bottom,but either way you clock it you should be able to get 5 of em. if youre willing to spend the $$ on the upgrades id run the d300 before id run a 208. from the pics in the mag,looks like you end up with nearly the beef of the atlas for about half its price. only difference is the housing,wich may or may not be an issue,not sure how the stock iron hosuing compares to a BLING aluminum atlas housing.

Actually, my lift came with 6" front springs and 4" rear springs w/ a 2" block for the rear to level it out. I was unhappy with the block at first but since then the front has sagged so much I will be removing the block as I do the spring over swap with my d60/14ff. This will leave me with only about a four inch lift. As far as keeping the body lift, I will wait to decide. I have had a truck not be tall enough by just a little bit and mangled a few tires. I would rather be an inch too tall than an inch too short.
As far as my flexing goes, it's not bad. The rusty's springs are supposed to have a spring rate of 300-330 which is pretty soft as far as I know and the rear springs are only four inches.
I already have the dana 300 so that is the way I will be going and I think it will be fine. They ran their built up 300 in baby jeeps with hopped up small blocks and 40+ tires. My truck weighs more but does not make as much power as a 350 vortec or a built 401 so I will try it out. Their web site has good pictures with the stock gears next to their gears and atlas gears. It all looks good to me.
I did not think that clocking it up was a good idea. I just had to ask. I have high centered the jeep more than once and most of the trails that I run are logging trails. There are often large downed trees as well as large rocks. There is a lot of logging around here and when a skidder blazes a fresh trail through the woods it is very difficult to follow it's tracks. Those things can go wherever they want. They can drive through almost any swamp and over/through any tree less than 8" in diameter. They use them to cut the logging trails around here. The adirondacks and north of there can be very rocky. I live at the northern foothills of the adirondacks and we have a good share of mountains and low land swamps.
Thanx for the input. I am just getting back to my project after many months of waiting and building up parts. You guys are full of info and respond fast. I am sure I will have many more questions in the next two months as I try to do this d60/14ff/d300/39.5irok build up.
