It comes with the truck and the mathcing rear D60

It looks like a great deal, but I wonder what kind of damage to expect from the accident?

This is all they say
Quote:
1979 Dodge pickup was involved in a crash May 2005.

It has a good 360ci and 4-speed tranny (with new clutch). The 203 t/c is busted. Front & rear Dana 60's. The front needs a new tie-rod. But, no other exterior damage. Most of the impact was the bumper area. The frame bent shearing the u-bolts and pushing the axle back. The gear ratio is your gamble. The upper & lower radiator hoses are cut and the fan shroud is also busted. I didn't pay attention to the tires, but the pics show decent condition. The carpet & seats are worn, but the dash & glass were in great shape.
What should I do - the 60 is what I want, but I worry about the damage.....

I would jump on that so quick!

First, I doubt the axle is damaged. If it is damaged beyond repair which I doubt cause you would have seen it, the SRW hubs/rotors are worth $250, the knuckles are worth $250, and you can sell the rest of the parts probably for $200 or so. That NP203 is perfect for a doubler for a FSJ. 23 spline input. You could swap in a Ford input shaft and use that transmission too. Finally, the rear dana 60 is a bolt in for wags and Cherokee's. No way you can loose on this deal buddy.

Thanks for the input - I already jumped in line to get it, so now only time will tell....but your thoughts make me feel a whole lot better about the deal
Thx

It sounds like the 203 tc is "busted", but supposedly the 360 still runs good, so it may be worth a few dollars too

Now if only the gear ratio was 4.10 or better
I can't imagine them putting in anything worse than a 3.54 though...

Well, he says front and rear 60s, so I am going off that. It would definitely queer the deal if it was a 44.

NP203's had chain stretch problems. I seriously doubt that the gear reduction box is damaged. They are total beef and all you would want is the gear reduction box off of the NP203, not the tcase itself.

if the lockouts are the same size as the ones (or the drive flanges) on your FSj, it's not a D60. looks kinda tiny to me. i'd try to get the rear end and do more looking into the front. it just looks too dang little to be a d60.

I have been told that all one tons have the lights on the roof. I know that all of the D60 stock trucks I have seen have. I'm sure that so many swaps have been done throught the years that it is a very loose rule. I have also seen trucks with the cab lights that had a HD-44 in it.

I bet the TC is busted from having the driveline get pushed back into it. Dunno if that would affect the reduction unit.

RE the D60 - I can tell the difference when I see them in person, so I am not too concerned with that - they did say that it is a 60...I'm just going off what they said.

Looks like a few people may have gotten in line before me, so I may be out of luck anyway

Thats an D44HD, not a D60. Notice how the hub necks down right outside the wheel. Plus didnt Dodge use a D70 as the rear axle for 1 tons?

Sure looks like a D60 to me. Not all 3/4 tons had lights on top, especially back in the late 70's. I seriously doubt nothing is wrong with the gear reduction box, those things are total beef.

Hope you get it. I would have been all over it.

Jode,

That is a Dana 44HD. Guy posted on the site that he was wrong. I hate it when people get you all excited for nothing.

A dodge 203 input matches a jeep th400? So all I would need is an adaptor?

It's a Dana 44. Hub and lower ball joint (driver side) say so. But even if 203 t-case is snapped in half range box should be fine.

hub yes...ball joint no. There are plenty of ball joint 60's.

There wasnt any ball joint D60's in that era. The first ball joint D60 had unit bearings and no hub at all, just a drive flange. The D60 with ball joints and a hub came out in the 90's.
