my J truck curently has a dead small block chevy in it. A co-worker has two options for sale. A) chevy 307, 120,000 miles, aluminum intake -200 bucks. Option B) 1988 camaro IROC w/ tuned port injection 305 140,000 miles, runs well, -1000 bucks. I can split the car with a buddy, I take motor, he takes the rest.
I think the 307 is the easier and cheaper route, but fuel injection sounds so nice! Is swaping the ECM and everything over worth it? Also, will a gm diesel bolt up? I would love to see that ohio diesel meeting, but that is a little to far for me.
Thanks for any input -Brian

both those engines are gutless. If you really need a cheap engine, then go for one, and just switch to a better engine when you get the money. But even in camaro's the 305's are gutless, much less a full size jeep that weighs 5000 pounds.

I like the idea . Hey riverbeast, you run a caddy 500 don`t you? I`m interested in one of those for engine rebuilding class. What tranny do you use or do you use an adapter with the origional Jeep tranny?

Todd and I use the BOP patern TH400, Todd swapped the guts from his AMC TH400 into a BOP Case. I swapped the TH400 tailshaft for a NP203 into a BOP/Caddy TH400.

472 and 500 have the same bore of 4.30, 472 has a 4.060 stroke and the 500 has a 4.304 Stroke. Yup I do Like the 455's, but decided to go with the 500

Man! You guys sure do like your BIG big blocks. My point of view on the matter is (J.ust E.nough E.ngine P.ower). That keeps you from breaking stuff, I like my dana 44's, and dont want to go to 60's. 200 hp and 230 ft lbs. are my ideal numbers. The caddy option is very cool, just not for me. My last j truck had a 258 with 230,000 miles on it with 39.5 tsl's, and it worked. Thanks for the input! -Brian

454 man, like RB said theyres no replecement for displacement.

i love my FI454. throw a TBI FI on it and youll have fun all day long. i was amazed at the torque of the 454 when i took it to the hammers.

Big Block Baby.

----edit----
ya i didnt want to go w/ 60's either, they are too weak.
