Exclamation

I tryed out my new combination of a dana 20 behind turbo 440 and dana 44 front and rear with 35's everything was fine until I went to pull a guy out in a two wheel drive truck then a high pitches noise it shifted out of gear and wouldn't go back in it took a hammer to get the shifter to move and we had to pull it on the trailer we borrowed. Please help as I have a trip to go rockcrawling in two weeks and I also have another transfer case if I have to put it in.

i'd take a look at the adapter. thoes th-400 to D-20 adapters suck. i broke mine and it did the same thing. i had to run it in 4-hi (no power to the rear) on a 200+ mile trip home.

I say the same thing. I cracked one of mine so good that I lost tranny fluid! Another thing is you could have broke the main input gear, BTDT. The best thing to do is to take it off and open it up. Or you can just drain it and take off the bottom plate and look for the obvious, but you will have to pull it anyway if something is broke. A D20 can be pulled and rebuilt in less than two hours. I have gotten pretty good at it .
