With the costs and headaches trying to find a Ford Dana 60 front end I have been thinking of converting to a passenger-side drop and use the front end out of a Chevy. I have had better luck finding the military axle combos in my area.
So I have the 727 transmission and a 208 t-case. Someone is telling me that by using the t-case out of the military doner I can use the back half to eliminate the SYE and then use other various parts from my 208 to make it fit the 727.
What headaches am I setting myself up for.
Thanks

I looked into this and I am going to do the same thing, KINDA. From what I learned the parts between all NP208's are interchangable. I plan on swapping in a TH400 Trans and Keep the Jeep NP208, but use the TailShaft from a Chevy TH400 that was in front of a NP208, and swap the Input Gear on the Jeep 208 from a Chevy NP 208 that was behind the Chevy TH400. From what I have looked at so far none of this mix n match is a big deal............But then that usually is how all nightmares start!!!!

Well, it's not quite that easy. I checked into this option a while back and although the Jeep version is heavy duty with 32 spline outputs and a fixed yoke, the front ouput is on the driverside as opposed to the Chevy passanger side. Another member looked at both cases and found that by using the back half of the Jeep case, you would have to flip it upside down which presented a problem because one of the oiling holes no longer lined up. He then suggested I use a Dodge NP208 for slip yoke elimination, since the Dodge NP208s are fixed yoke passanger side drop. Since you're running a TF727 instead of a TH400 like me, you should just run the Dodge NP208. I wouldn't think you would need an adapter since it's the same case, but the input spline count may be different. Hope this helps.

all youve got to do is swap in the jeep 23 spline input gear, and the jeep output shaft and rear housing. AFAIK,youwont have to use the whole rear half of the jeep case.
nother option would be to use a dodge 205,wich will also have the round pattern and 23 spline input. much stronger than the 208,IMO,and twinstickable
the other thing to consider is the fact that the transfer case will now occupy approximately the same location as the catalytic convertor,so youll need to reroute exhaust.

Scotty...what catalytic converter
It appears way to much to do this in a practical manner. I guess the search for the elusive Ford Dana 60 continues

To swap the passenger drop in the exhaust manifolds will probably also have to be swapped as I believe the changed when the drop did to allow clearance for the drive shaft.
Olympic 4x4 in WA recently had a bunch of Ford high pinion D60s for $1,500.
