How about this internet legend? It isn't an FSJ. But it shows you can mount 16R20s with no lift. Even better, you can do it on 5-lug axles.

Dangit! I keep trying to link the photo correctly and it keeps telling me the photo "exceeds forum quota by 30 kb". How? It is well within the size guidelines. And I clearly know how to upload photos since I already have several posted.

Anyhow, here's the link for anybody who needs a giggle.

Trailers belong behind trucks, not under them.

Why? Because nobody in the history of 'wheeling has ever said, "good thing I put those smaller tires on my rig."

That truck is a photochop, it doesn't exist. That one photo is the only one that exist, and is extremely low quality. The hubs are also out of proportion.

Afraid not. The very first time I saw that particular picture the CL ad for the rig was still active. There were several pics of it from various angles. The funniest/scariest part was the seller's comment that the truck "steers for the most part". It was still on the stock 1/2-ton axles too.

We had a '78 Cherokee Chief that had no lift and 33s that we never had issues with. i recently came across some pics of it, i will see if i can get them up some time.

After we bought the '78 we took the leaf springs off, layed them in a ditch in summer heat, and bent them with a sledge hammer. At first we had about 4 inches of lift, but it got shorter and shorter as time went on. 5 years later it was back to stock height. 5 years after that is was about 2 inches lower than the stock J10. still rode 33s without ANY issues, at full flex on some of the "hardcore" trails in Las Cruces in the early 90s (we were hanging out in Broad Canyon long before it was cool)

The rims were not stock, however. they were generic white spokes painted black. im not sure what the backspacing was, but im sure that played in important part

With no lift? 31's.

With a 4" lift, 32's.
With a 6" lift, 33's, but you still have to trim a tiny bit off the lower corner of the rocker area to get full flex.
With an SOA, you can technically fit 35's, but you would have to drop your bump stops, or trim.

The problem is Waggies just have TINY fender openings. WT Cherokee's for instance can fit 35's with a 6" lift without any issues.

Here is my old 87 Waggy with 33x12.50x15's and no lift. I had to trim the front corners of the rear opening. I cut the bottom off the rear quarters for more clearance when wheelin. The front got cut to the lowest body line all the way aroud the opening
......

Heres a video with it workin...

Did you happen to do a write-up/take pictures when you did that? I'm going to have to do it to mine. Rust issues.

I cut the inner and outer qtr panel at 1/4in below the bottom body line. That way the cut doesnt get into the fuel fillers. Then I just made a template and cut a flat plate out of 1/8in then welded it in. When I do it on my 89 I'll use 1/4in for more strength.

On the front of the rear openng I out the pinch weld and cut the opening a little larger then welded the inner/outter pieces of fender back together

Really good pics on the rear portion. That's more of what I was after. Mine is already cut on the left rear, at least the outer skin is.

The wiring isn't there now. I'm also going to be running a s-10 blazer tank behind the axle, so alot of stuff is going to be moving around. Right rear isn't as bad(not cut, but is rusted), but it'll get the same treatment the left does. Mind if I save those pics for future reference?

Did you weld the inside and the outside or just the outside?

Thats a good looking setup. Im a big fan of keeping a low COG.

Dont/Didnt you have a newer Cherokee too? Your screen name seems familiar.

The new piece is welded completly from the outside of the vehicle. It sucks getting the back side because of all the dirt and crud that is difficult to clean off. After I welded it, I used an autobody seam sealer from the passenger compartment to keep water and exhaust fumes out.
By all means save them.

I don't mind cutting the fenderwells I just don't want to cut out the inside of the fender over the tire is what I meant like te wheelwells that stick up inside, sorry for my misconception

I didnt have to cut any of the inner feder well at all, just the parts in the pics otherwise the tire wouldnt even fit. It sis rub the seatbelt bolt at full stuff. I welded a piece of sheet metal over it so it didnt chew up my tires. The rig worked great except the breakover sucked. My 89 Waggy has 35's with a SOA/SF, looking at it while I was building it I couldnt fit the 35's without either the lift or completly chopping and rebulding the inner fenders. I think 33's are as big as you can go without a ton of work.
