Pics will be up shortly when my little Jeep buddy "Fireman" returns.
I thought I had a functioning QT...NOPE!
I even pulled the rear driveshaft to see if I had power to the front axle. I moved the Honcho about two feet and called it good. Don S. can vouch for that.
Tuesday after most of the FSJ members left, I went out on a Jeep run with CJ's, YJ's and a Rubicon all locked in the rear if not both. These guys were up to doing some trails and one in particular that I was very fearful of.....Black Bear.
I know some guys here are gonna say "you said" and "I should have"....but.
Peer pressure and being the only fullsize representative I couldn't show ANY weakness . So I said lets do it .
I was tailgunning and came to the first stair step. All the guys and gals were watching and the trail leader Gerald, says your "front axle isn't getting any power".
Do some checking with Fireman, check on vacuum, all seems well but still no engagement.
Well at this point I was ready to throw in the towel and take the easy way out. Richard in the Rubi offers to follow me back to Ouray and give me a ride into Telluride via Imogene Pass to meet up with the others.
At this point there really wasn't much more climbing just the hair-pins and switchbacks.
So out of the two choices I had and when everybodies going "it's easy" and "you'll have no problem". I gave in once again .
I didn't do it alone for sure and I had plenty of spotter help.
I don't believe I'll ever do it again in 2wd...it's kinda hairy when your backing up in a switchback and your rear wheel looses traction and you have to pull further forward towards the edge to make another run at it

Surprised he could tell your front axle wasn't working thru the smoke screen you always leave.
Glad you got back in one piece.

WOW!!! Kenny - sounds like your QT E-Drive shifter is all Kaputa. Sorry to hear that. Glad you made it safe. How much fabric did ya pull up from the seat on those switch backs? I did the one along side the water fall with no fuel in the carb since it was so steep it all ran to the front of the tank and coasted it to the next hairpin. YEOW! That was fun.

Naw, I don't blame you. The rental company had a sticker in the windshield that said "Stay off Black Bear Pass!" We still had a blast watching all the other FSJ's.

LOL! I'd say!
BTW...the guys in the little Jeeps kept saying they were big fans of "SouthPark" LOL!
I don't like the name "Kenny" mentioned anywhere near a cliff!

Yup, I don't understand it either!
It's gonna be put on hold for awhile until I can get another reliable vehicle up and runnin'.
BTW...I would have gone that route but needed to get home. I made it into West Cliff? and decided I needed to get the Honcho back in my neck of the woods. Boy what a drive all the way to Walsenburg! For awhile there I thought I lost third gear!
Glad you and Doris made it back safe and sound.
I'll get your custom foam back to ya ASAP!

Yep, I should have done black bear too, since my truck was running well.
Cole, you may have very well run every trail in 2wheel low the entire trip. Could be a first.

Yup...Black Bear is very interesting. I have no desire to run it again though. Not a challenge (only deadly dangerous), and the scenery isn't worth my life!!

I would like to run it with a full tank of fuel. Some of the road going down to Telluride is steep, all the fuel ran to the front of the tank and the engine died a couple times. Had to coast into a switch back once to get the front end up and get fuel flowing again. Yeah, a little nervous... Then I still had 11 gallons in the tank (33 gal capacity) when we gassed up at the Conoco in Telluride. Might be something wrong there.
As a matter of fact, I was out of gas when this was shot:

I went to Silverton Via Engineer. I camped out on that corner by Poughkeepsie where we saw some 4X4's camped out. I thought about riding up poughkeepsie, but California pass is about 800 feet higher and I didn't think I could handle the altitude. No way to set the timing forward on my lungs!

O.K. Kenny, here goes my first attempt at posting a picture. If this goes thru, I'll post more. This is a pic of the two wheel drive Honcho on Black Bear.
