Thumbs up

I am interested in meeting some other people that are into these wonderful beast! possibly interested in doing coke oven run. is it novice friendly? have a little experience off road. I own a stock 84 grand wagoneer! im sure it's not like the rubicon. but is it a good place to start?

Though it can be done with a stock Jeep, a stock FSJ would definately take on damage even with an experienced wheeler. You found the right bunch though! We can sure in heck convince you to spend your last nickle on a lift and tires! Welcome to the Club!

I guess I will need to look into a lift kit for my blood sucking monster if i am going to get serious about trying to run with all of you!since I am sure you all are very experienced.my wagoneer is totally stock. it sounds like it would struggle on coke oven run.as much as I would like to go and meet everybody I don't want to be the new squid to ruin any ones time because my truck will not make it. all of you have a fun and safe trip!

Tom - is the coke trail worse than box canyon? Will E made it with just a slight exhaust mod .

I've been told that there is a narrow section "stairs" that challenges the diffs and undercarriage of stock Jeeps. It sounds like the majority of the trail is similar to Box Canyon though. I learned a lot of expensive lessons with "Johnson" when he was a stock young GW. I did learn them the hard way though, just like everybody else! I've got a strap, tools and spare parts should we need them!

Where do we end up at? Would there be a better place for me to meet 'Thing'? or does anyone else want to join me?

Tom -I am glad you are going to bring tools and stuff. I will leave mine at home.

--gwinn, when you say damage can be expected with an unlifted GW, what do you mean? Mine is stock, except for the 31" BFGs'. I don't mind taking some tread-rubbing, (read cuts),during what for me, is full articulation.
--Sure, my GW is pretty, lol,(don't hate me 'cause I'm beautiful), but beauty aside, I don't baby the thing, and it has more miles in the dirt then on the pavement.
--However, if'n I physically can't make it w/ just the 31s', I'd like to know bwfore we hit the hard stuff.
--Please advise...Thks.

Ridgbak, I haven't been on the trail myself. 31" tires is 2" lift as far as I'm concerned. Damage means exhaust system and other undercarriage stuff, but I'm pretty sure that with your tires, and spotting if necessary, your GW will still be beautiful when we finish the trip. I don't want to discourage anyone. This trail may be as good as paved. I haven't been there.

Cool

--gwinn, I haven't run across a lot of trails that I can't tackle, one way or another. I went to mapquest and d-loaded aerial photos of the trail, and except for a couple of narrow chutes it doesn't look too bad.
--If'n Tad doesn't need my assistance for his weekend project, AND if I can put off a change-out of front wheel bearings on the wifeys' Camry 'till Sunday, I'll show up, at 0800.

I'm only bringing about 10ft of bailing wire and 1-roll of duct tape, so I advise others to bring some too. Those supplies also double as my first aid kit! and there are never "enough" tools!

Still Good Mark! Bring your truck though. Maybe it's not as bad as you think! What size tires do you have? We can check it out at the gas station.

I took Will E down the box canyon and with a lot of help from the gang (Tom especially likes to move rocks around, he's weird that way). We made it with only a slight adjustment to the exhaust pipe.

I had just 12" of clearence at the bottom of the trailer hitch. I also had a bunch of tools in the truck including a floor jack. If you lightn' your load a little (remove your spare) that will help too. I'll loan you my spare if you end up needing it and we can secure it on the hub with Tom's Duct tape!

Either way the passenger seat is open and you are welcome to join in.

--Sorry all. Wifey just informed me last night that we have some Bizz-ness that needs to be taken care of tomorrow, (Sat). Unfortunetly, we are both required to be on hand for some paper signing.
--If it wasn't VERY important, I'd blow it off till next week, but that's not the case.
--The up-side of tommorow is: I'll be lifting 'Rosco', with some of the results from tomorrows transactions.
--I'm bummed about missing the Coke Oven run, and hopefully, it won't be the last one.
