I'd like to get my truck out on a trail to do a little 'functional testing' before Ouray. Any Colorado'ns interested in doing the same? Doesn't have to be anything hardcore, but something above 10,000 feet would be nice. Let's get something together. Dome?

Once I get my xfer cases swapped out, I might be up to that. When/where you planning on going?

It would probably have to be last weekend of July or first weekend of August. As far as the trail, probably something easy, like Wheeler lake or an easy trail west of Denver. Hacket would have been my first choice because its close, but I don't think we'll be going in there for a while cause of the fire. I live close to Mt. Herman Rd., and there are some spur roads off of that, but nothing difficult without snow on it. I'm certainly up for suggestions. My limitation is open diffs. Where at in the springs are you?

Open diff for me, too. Nothing serious is agreed.
I live in north Colorado Springs and work in Denver so it's no big deal for me to drive. Last weekend in July or beginning of August is fine; I don't know any trails around here so if you know of any, that'd be great.

If your a morning commuter you might see me going southbound on the 'I'. When do you think you'll have that X-fer case in? If you need a hand, let me know, we don't live far from each other. I just R/R'd my X-fer case weekend before last to reseal. It can be a bear doing by yourself. Let me know.

Appreciate the offer; especially since I broke my thumb on Saturday. (Don't ask how...)
I think I'll be alright; I'm going to go pull it this Saturday and maybe (depending on it's condition) put it in the same day.
What time are you on the interstate?

7:30'ish. Broken thumb, ouch Hopefully some other locals will chime in and we can set a time and place. Offers still open for help. I planned on working on the pickup this weekend anyway. Drop me a PM if you change your mind. Later.

I'm on the east side of the Springs and I wouldn't mind a run with some of the local big trucks! I've got In-laws in the house right now, but I'd be interested to see where you guys decide to go, and depending on when they clear out, I may be able to go.

How about Spring Creek on the 3rd? Its right off I-70 west of Denver and looks challenging, but doable with ground clearence and open diffs. The 3rd gives time to do what you need to do and a weekend to fix anything before Ouray. Sound good? Can you make it Dome? Let some of your CFSJA buddys know and maybe we can get a decent size group of FSJ's together for the run. Let me know.

I'm up for any ride, especially Spring Creek. I'm in Arvada. Need to test out the new equipment on the Wag. Let's keep in touch and set a time and date.

NMarsh, cool, glad your in. Have you done Spring Creek before? What would you suggest as required equipment for an FSJ?

I haven't done spring creek, but have done quite a bit of research on it and read trail reports. Looks like open diff's will go, lift and 33" + tires, along with careful driving is enuf. It isn't that long of a trail, and an easy return road makes any breakage easy to live with.

The 3rd would work great (at least I can say that right now!). Maybe we can get 4-5 others for the ride.

Unfortunatly, I will be out of town. I would really like to run that trail sometime though if you guys want to go another time also, I've been wanting to do that trail for some time now. Maybe in Sept or after Ouray we can do it again

I'm in, the 3rd would work for me, given there are no more fires between now and then!
Is spring creek before or after Idaho Springs?

Spring Creek is about 7 miles west of Idaho Springs. Exit#234 @ Downieville. We went up there about a month or so ago. The first obstacle will be tricky for double opens, and the rock garden towards the end will put you to the test as well. It is a really fun trail. I won't be able to make the 3rd, (I get to visit my Mom-in-law in Lubbock and fix her car),but you all should run it. Maybe we could run it (or something else) a little later after Ouray. Did you know that CFSJA has a tentative plan to run Holy Cross September 7th?

davez26 and Dome, sorry you can't make it but I'm sure there will be other times. So It looks like there is at least three of us, hopefully more will jump on board as there is still time. We will set a time and meeting place a little closer do the date but it looks like it'll be the third. It looks like I'll be welding up the spider gears in the rearend this weekend for some insurance More later.....

I could probably make it, but my Jeep simply isn't modded enough for those trails. Give me a couple months!

fastfxr, read the writeup on it on 4x4trails.net. Stock XJ's did it. What size tire are you running? From the pics, it surely doesn't look difficult.
