I'm getting this stutter like I'm out of gas. It only happens upon takeoff so far. It's an intermittent problem too! I just put on a Accel super stock coil, 8mm wires, and distributor.
She was running fine before this. I know I did everything right. I even took my time!
Maybe a connection isn't tight?
Would you advance timing with ignition upgrades?

definitely sounds like a missfire problem...I'd start by checking the plugs. If that ain't it maybe the coil is going bad or the dizzy cap is loose or something...

That's the thing. It's running good with smooth idle. I just put the accel superstock coil on and even used the boot that came with it.
I got the GREEN wire going to NEGATIVE and the RED/WHITE going POSITIVE.
IS that right?
What would happen if they were crossed. No FIRE?

If you had the wires wrong, it wouldn't fire at all. The coil is a one-way capacitor. So it intermitantly looses it's nuts, but only when accelorating? So it only does it under load, but does it act different at different RPMS? It may be an advance problem if it gets worse at higher RPMs, but to correct what I posted about a missfire, it's starting to sound like a fuel problem, even though you didn't touch the carb... Can you tell me some more about what's going on? I'm not by any means the expert, but I'm definitely confused. maybe someone else can chime in...

Well, recently I got a remanufactured stock carb from TOMCO. I slapped it on and off I went. The other day I was going up a hill on the highway and she started hesitating. It got so bad that I thought she was gonna shut down. It then stopped and I continued on. I was driving her all day yesterday and she drove great, but no highway driving. I really didn't test drive her tonight. I guess I better get up a little early when going to work incase I gotta stop and fix something.
I did notice a little fuel leakage on the back of the carb that center roundish thing by the egr vent.
Maybe that's the problem. Whaddaya think?

man, it sounds liek we are having similar issues. if you want some aditional input from the group, see the thread "why is this happening-long" i am attributing my rpoblem to the plugs getting messed up, but that may not be it, and even if it is, i don't know why. anyway, good lucj with your demons.

Just out of morbid curiosity, did you fill up right before the problems started? I had similar symptoms in one of my dodges right after filling up and it wound up being bad gas...probably why 76 didn't make much of a comeback!

I think the carb may be the culprit. I gotta wait till my car comes outta the shop and I'm gonna take that carb off and send it back. I have a 30 day guarantee with TOMCO.
Someone mentioned that aftermarket stock carb rebuilders are crappy. Is this true?
I'm gonna go out now and push the connectors down a bit on the wires and check everything.
I went through emissions the other day and they failed me for wipers: which have nothing wrong, 1 lug nut missing, which is really nitfuc%in pickin, and emissions. They did a RPM test and I think passing was 600 something and they say I did a 6,200 or something. I'll get the info and post it when I get back.
