I have the 4350 on my J20. Needs a rebuild and I was thinking of maybe going wth a Holley or something. Is the 4350 a good carb? I'd rather leave it alone if it is I just want something that will be reliable.

well, a brand-new holley carb is definitely big $$ as compared to a rebuild.....but if you do the carb tuning and work yourself, could be worth it......however, i've heard many people say that the motorcrafts are good carbs (if taken care of), and on the basis of my rebuild, which was definitely cheaper than a brand-new carb, i'd say go for the rebuild.......however, there is also the question of your intake manifolds, stock or performance?......how far you want to go with your upgrades, etc.......if you've got a stock manifold, getting a Holley or Edelbrock carb would be kind of redundant.......unless you bought the matching manifold to go with the carb.......and also, parts for your motorcraft are easily had at places like discount auto, autozone, Napa, etc....and for small $$$....whereas the performance parts are of course a bit harder to obtain from such places, and are definitely more $$$..........well, that's my .02 cents......

Thanks Bombadier you've convinced me to keep it. I think it'll be fine for what the truck will be used for.

Thumbs up

NP....glad to be of service.....just shop around a bit for a decent rebuild place....preferably somewhere that doesn't have to send the carb out to get it done, like your average tune-up/mechanix shop......also, prices vary a bit, but for your 4bbl, it shouldn't be more than 230-250$.......here's a rundown on what i got charged-
$115- rebuild
$5 - shop supplies
$29 - diagnostic fee
$50 - installation of carb + tune-up/timing
......well, good luck!

I rebuilt my 4350 that Jeepbob gave me.

Was pretty straight forward. Rebuild kit was less then $20. Floats are extra. And the kit did not come with the gaskit that goes undrer the spacer(extra $6), but came with the one that goes on top of the spacer. All the little check balls, needels, carb gaskits and stuff were in the kit.

It whent together real easy when I used the part numbers to put it back together. Starting with the highest number and worked my way down. This and nothing was left out and it all whent together in order. It also followed the the tuning and setting's as I whent along. Time for the float....flip sheet over...yep time to set the float hight. Time for the meatering rods...flip sheet over...yep time to set the meatering rods.

Are the throtel shafts sloppy?

I'd try a rebuild first.

Just my .02

Later

Sounds easy enough. Where did you get your kit, sounds like a pretty complete one. The shafts are pretty good so thats good. How do you like your 4350?
