I think it's open and it would be a D-44 not a 60 if that is what you are looking for. Ford didn't use the 60 intill 78.

Actually I think in '74 that would be a closed knuckle 44.

Depends. It could be a High Pinion D44 or if it was factory outfitted for snow plowing a D60. A D60 could have come with the camper package as well. Both of the D60 options are very rare.

If it has king pins it probably is a D60.

ford used some funky d60 in prior to 78-it was standard cut,but had 30 spline,1.31" inner axles.

unless it was a plow or camper factory thing, like 2ndtime mentioned, the only 250 to get as d60 was the extened cab. you usually only got a d60 in a 350.

i found a rev cut d60 in a standard cab 250 in a yard awhile ago,and i was unsure if it had been swapped in or what. it did have a plow,so according to 2ndtimearounds info, that maybe explains it

I'm a bit cloudy on pre 78's But 78-79, Scotty hit it on the head. Some F250 Supercabs, and all F250's with the snow prep package got the D60. Nice thing for us fsj'rs is if you find a 78-79 D60 up front, the spring perches are same distance as the wagoneers. Plus they are already soa.

2ndtimearound, My '78 F250 Supercab needs kingpins, and I'm dreading doing it...wanna come over and change them for me? I'll supply the beer!

I have a 44 that they say came out of a '74 F-250, and it has flat top knuckles and some odd steering thingy connected to the drivers side.

Did some more diggin.

78-79 F250s with the 3800 lb axle front end should have a D44

Those that have the 4500 lb front end have a D60.

Unfortunately ford vins of the era do not give the weight info.

bentpushrod, a King Pin Job sounds fun...haven't had to do one of those in years, but you are kinda far...to bad you were not closer.
