    Will a 33x10.50 Spare fit ?

    I am running 33x12.50s

As I prepare for a long road trip, I want a spare available "just in case"

Can I fit a BFG KO2 33x10.50 under the rear cargo floor?
Where the original tire would have been.
On a stock chrome junkyard wheel btw.

Not getting a clear result on search function.

Looking for real world experience before I buy a tire.

    TIA !!

I doubt it, not just from a height perspective, but mostly from a width perspective. I had to adjust the hinge to its lowest point just to get a stock 235 tire to fit in there and allow me to get the arm bolted back up near the rear bumper.
A 10.5" inch thick tire is way wider than a stocker, so unless you made a custom hinge that hangs much lower that allows you to get the entire arm bolted back up, I'd say your best bet is to throw the combo in the cargo area or on the rooftop.

That much weight on the roof always made me nervous. If you have a hitch, make up a spare holder that fits into the hitch. In the way of the tailgate but it can be moved. Just an idea.

Maybe get a hold of Bob over on FSJN, and see if he has any of these available?

(Ristow)fram!....that deserves a ratchet upside the head.

I replied on your FB post, but I'll add it here as well. My77 Cherokee WT had 33x10.5 as a spare. It fit, the previous owner had modified the bracket to fit by extending the pivot end and adding a longer bolt. I found that I could not remove the spare without jacking up the Jeep, not enough ground clearance. With a flat, it obviously would have been worse. My fix was to have Bob make me a Swing away spare tire bumper.

            Ha ha!

I have one of those.. I took it OUT!
Welded up the holes when I painted it.

I need the space for overlanding stuff.

So, it looks like a "NO" on fitting this size spare under there.
I always carry a plug kit, so maybe I'll have to wing it without a spare.

Or, get a small tire spare to just get off the road.

Maybe you have a look for a small 16 inch wheel/tire ,so it fits under your Jeep and can be removed without to much hassle And also have a diameter that is the same or close to the 33x10.50 tires.

Well that is what I would do and did with a spare wheel/tire on my j4000

It will fit under, but the stock tire carrier bracket isn't friendly for removal/install.
Could be modified but best solution would be to mount a newer style winch type mount to the underside of floor like from a ford ranger or similar.

I have given this some thought!

Is the Ranger unit a good donor?
I figure I could weld a brace in, and then set up a tire winch. Maybe.

Dodge Ram trucks have this same winch system for the spare wheel.
I'm going to use this on my 73' j4000 with utility bed.
Made a extra support bracket on the underside of the bed for bolting on the spare wheel winch system.

My '98 Dodge has one. Driving along the freeway once I feel a thump. Look in the mirror to see what I hit and see a tire rolling. It only took a moment to realize it was mine since I didn't see it ahead of me before I felt it.

Moral is you need to check these cable lifters once in a while. Planned to put something else also but never got to it yet. Coulda caused an accident.

I fit a 285/75R16 (about 32.75" diameter) in my spare tire holder. I had to really cram that puppy up there. I would think you could jam a 33 in there but it will suck.

I even wrote a post on it. Looks like some other folks have fit 33s in theirs. my issue was tread width more that diameter but the diameter is tough too.
When I bought my rims (16x7) and tires (285/75-16) I got 5 rims and 4 tires. I just threw an extra rim/tire I had in my spare holder but it's a 31x10.50-15 and close to 20 years old. I have been storing the 5th matching rim in my garage for close to 3 years. In my quest to clear out my garage I went out and bought another

I did the Dodge tire crane and love it. To solve the droop, I run a rachet strap from side to side as a safety strap. The J20 has had the same spare under it for 3 years.
