'90 GW Dash Help Needed

I had to pull my AC/Heater control panel and radio to rework some PO issues. I need help with 2 questions:

1) Where does the green colored vacum tube plug in and do I access it from the control panel dash opening or from below the dash?

2) There is a small courtesy light in there with an aluminum housing running off of an orange wire. Where does it go?

Thanks in advance for the assistance.

Top right left is red
Bottom left is blue
Top left is green
Bottom right is black

Where is the light your speaking about

The light should line up with a hole in the side of your glove box on the left side, it should light the ashtray as well

Tripwire, I just can't find a port to plug in the green vacum tube. The others plug in somewhere down below/behind the plennum/dash area.

Rockrollin, thanks for the tip on the light!

Any help on the vacum would be appreciated. It may explain why my defrost doesn't work?

Thats why it doesnt work, and you can't engage 4wd with either plug off. I will go look at mine in a while and get back to you.

I did a quick look as well...i cant see jack....
I thought you were referring to the switch unit itself
All i know is that it does not go to the ac unit under the dash i can see that line, so take out the instrument cluster and start sniffing around for a silver or gold colored vac actuator ...

Sorri i cant help more

Sounds like it should run to the silver vacuum motor just to left of heater floor plenum dealio. That one has 2 vacuum connections IIRC

I will check that babywag but it seems to be the shortest of the hoses and did not appear to be long enough to reach that far.

The light is not the one in the glove box, that one is still there. The bulb is blown so I don't know if it is connected to the dash lights or not. Small round bulb. It has a very short lead so it has to go close to where the heater control goes. The heater control still has it's light also.

Thanks guys. Any more help on these would be appreciated.

Light

Did you check the wiring diagram @ http://home.comcast.net/%7Eamc_jeep/wiring_diagrams.htm

It can tell you what circuit it is on, maybe by the wire color, you determine where it mounts.

Green vac tube? That makes me think it is one of the SelecTrac tubes. IIRC (and it's been ages) there was a red, a green, and a yellow or some other color. They come into the firewall near the ball heater reservoir that runs the heater vents, and they go down to the SelecTrac switch. The courtesy light probably is the one that goes near the ebrake release?

shimniok, good suggestion as I think it might be just long enough to reach the firewall. Maybe I pulled it loose when I pulled it out. The light definitely goes on the passenger side of the gauge cluster and I will check the wiring diagram. Thanks.

Well, I discovered that the light in question is the one that plugs into the cigarette lighter sleeve. Both now work!

I found a round metal vacum ball alomost on the floor behind the AC plennum box that was missing a vacum plug so I landed my hose there. However the hose has a 1/2" soft clear plastic ring around it, like it goes into something and not over it so I don't know. It had an arm that seemed to go up inside the plennum. Once I run my new power wire and heater control cable I will know if that is correct or not.
