it's all about evolution
I've always been a jeep guy first car was a MJ had a LJ which I really miss. and have 3 family freindly Jeeps now. I wife is hooked on jeeps now. SHe thinks our waggy is cool and actually can't wait to go on outdoor expeditions in it with our munchkin. I know it can be done but a family of 3 in a wrangler with all their camping gear they need for a trip is REALLY cramped. I know the xj is just big enough since we don't pack light. Waggy will be plenty of space and they are just so much cooler then other similar era suvs.
long story short.
"It's a jeep thing you wouldn't understand" really doesn't work in here, but "It's a Jeep thing I expect you understand" does.

Simply because the body style LOOKs beautiful, and is timeless. FSJs always turns heads. Can't say the same about its competitors.
BTW, I feel the same about the Triumph Spitfire. And like FSJs, are plagued with various weak points and engineering flaws. Someday I'll have another one of them too.

Jeep is American Icon!! The FSJ's bring it into one package. They are an American Icon and their look is different from anything else out there!

Growin up my father had three full-size Broncos: a '79, '83 and an '88. They were good vehicles at the time for a family of 5 and we had a lot of good memories in those vehicles. About 4 years ago I decided I wanted one. Found a sweet one with with 54,000 original miles and not rusted out. Drove it for a few years but found out that with my family of 5 it was a pain to get car seat and kids into the back. Memorial Day of last year a young girl T-boned the Bronco and it was totaled.
I decided I was going to get something that the kids could get in and out easier but had timeless styling.
The other vehicle that I enjoyed as a youngster was my grandmother's FSJ's. She had two Grand Wagoneers when I was young and drove me and my sisters to school everyday. Hence, when I found the right FSJ I bought it because I loved the history it already had in with my family.
I haven't got the Cherokee on the road just yet, but I feel more connected to it than the Bronco because I have put a lot of time, effort and burnt-brain cells into getting this thing ready......and I like that aspect of being an FSJ owner.
If I had both vehicles infront of me today with the option of only picking one....it wouls be the FSJ

Truth is FSJs are crack on wheels. One taste and you are addicted. Then you just want more. Anyone who does not see this is in denial.

Because I will never afford/find my IH 1210 Stepside again and the J10 is extremely close but easier to find parts for.

My wrangler USED to be fine for the trail....until I had kids.
It was impossible to camp on the Con if I was bringing the wife and two kids because I could not carry enough gear. just when I was thinking about buying a trailer, I had a 3rd boy... so I NEEDED a FSJ..
add in the fact that I grew up in a 77 Waggy, which also became my first car and it was the right choice.

I was preparing a 70 Hornet for a circle track car, and thought it be neat if I also towed it with a AMC.
So I got the J10, and blew the engine the first day. Ended up putting the engine intended for the CT car in the J10.
Never have finished that Hornet, but i've been using the J10 to tow other cars to the track since 2001.

For me and some others here cars, trucks, bikes whatever is more emotion than reason. It's whatever makes your heart go piddy pat. Had nothing to do with previous family Jeeps etc. When/where I grew 4x4's weren't even a marketing item. Only ones I ever saw growing up were old surplus flatfenders parked behind gas stations used for plowing snow.
Admittedly though I'm a little bent(I have references). I also ride a Russian motorcycle and always thought Edsel's were cool looking cars.
The new plastic fluff rigs have no soul.
On the other hand those craving for a cheap 4x4. Where else can you buy a running real Jeep 4x4 for a $500. buy-in.
Anybody see the meds cart go by yet? I think I missed it today?

Without X, There would be no Y
While I may not own an FSJ (sure do spend most of my days ogling them though ) everyone has to agree that without the iconic rigs of yesteryear, there would be no new Jeeps of today.
Besides, if there wasn't ever a Gladiator/J10, I wouldn't be driving my '87 Comanche right now, not to mention I would have never caught the Jeep Fever..

why FSJ? Miles per gallon, of course!!!
Just kidding... kinda. Right now im getting 15-20 in the '91 Grand, not too bad, right?
Most of my childhood my dad had a J10s, the '79 Honcho being the best and around the longest. My mom drove an '83 Eagle from the time i was 4 till i was 18.
When I started to drive I was handed the Honcho (instead of the '76 Sedan de Ville,500ci HOT-ROD i was working on) and did A LOT of work to it to make it presentable. At that point it was nice enough to pick up girls (but that's a whole new thread )! I drove it to school until i bought my '68 Satellite.
Fast forward many years- the J10 has become my dads new project, im working like a dog and the wife and I are driving Chevys. When i was a kid I NEVER would have even thought about owning a Chevy, but there i was with a driveway full of them. time to clean house!
Just a few months back i came across 2 Wagoneers for sale from a very reputable 4x4 shop owner. The Wagoneers were his and his wifes personal vehicles so I knew they wouldn't be neglected. We made a deal and I sold my red and black '95 t-tops Camaro and my '79 Ramcharger pop-top (the best stock older 4x4 ive EVER been in. Sorry guys.) and scooped up the 2 Wagoneers.
The wife will be driving the '91 Grand soon ('98 Blazer for sale- CHEAP. Anyone??) and when the cooling issues are resolved I would like to drive the wheels off The Green Bastard.
Here is my Pops and I, Easter of '86 (im the short one)

i always liked them. my brother had a widetrac cherokee when i was a kid. it was way cool. i like different stuff, im into muscle cars but a body mopars specifically. they are sort of low key too. i had a 31 essex coupe, because i wanted and old coupe but didnt want a ford, and i didnt want one with a wood structure. i liek stuff that is different. my buddy used the wag i have now as a daily driver for years and everyone thought he was nuts. i thought he was cool. he didnt know a real lot about cars but he was hooked on it and was collecting parts like a mad man hoping to fix it up. unfortunately the rust got the best of him. i have a liberty and ive been doing some light wheeling with it and its a lot of fun, again its different. i like when im out there with the jeep guys and im usually the only guy without a wrangler. i wanted something a little heavier duty for the trails, but still wanted a backseat, i wound up with the rot box wagoneer.

because I'm a jeep guy! 88 cherokee, 94 grand cherokee, 07 JK wrangler (which I sold) and made my 76 my DD! Plus, my dad had an 83 grand wagoneer when I was a kid and that may have been the beginning of the end for me.... PLUS I like tinkering with stuff, good thing too!

I need a 4x4 about 4 days out of the year when it snows.
I looked a lot Jeep Cj’s but they were way to expensive as the owners all think they are made of Gold.
I will not drive a pick up truck as the state bends you over with the weight fee on the registration.
I found my FSJ the way I have bought all my personal cars, I saw it sitting and knocked on the door.
$1500 for a rust free 4x4 that was smogged with current registration, how could I pass it up.
At 55 this will be the last car I will need in my lifetime.
Except there is a 1919 Model T I have be watching for a couple of decades that was parked in a garage in '63.
I will be getting that eventually as the owner (belonged to her husband) is now in her 90's and the kids are going
sell it to me. I plan on keeping it completely stock and using it as a daily driver around town.

I blew up the HT4100 "engine" in my Cadillac and was in need of a car. My sister offered me her "just sitting" Grand Wagoneer for $500. I jumped on it! I had to put a transmission in it (knew a guy with a low-mile rebuild, he blew the tcase and he was parting it out). It's been my daily for almost four years now and it makes me so #%*@!& mad I want to roll it off a cliff sometimes but I can't bring myself to get rid of it! They get under your skin... Had a girl offer me $2500 for it although it looks like what it is, a well-worn, $500 vehicle. My girl would kill me if I sold it - she loves it but is scared to drive it
Plus, so many modern Jeep drivers don't know what it is. I love that.

Its a Fullsize Jeep Thang....
Its not a common 4x4.
I love it.
It fits my whole family for fun.
I'll bleed, cry, and sweat for it.
Daddy tested and Kid approved...
Ask my crew they think its the bees knees. I have heard them tell there friends "My dad has a real 4 wheel drive!"
