rusty's rant

i ordered a lift, the extended brake lines, and a steering stabilizer on 4/19/12 for my wagoneer.
i recieved the 4 springs and 4 shocks right away. the u bolts were too small, they were made for a 2.5" axle tube. the brakelines and steering stabilizer were not in the box. i called them right away, they told me it would be shipped out that day.
by the 2nd week when i didnt get it i called them. the first 2 deliveries came fast.
so here i am going on 2 months from the date i placed the order and i have not recieved my stuff. i have about 4 times, and they gave me a different story every time.
i got tired of hearin bs stories so i emailed them last week. they told me it was ups that screwed up and never notified them, i should have my parts friday or monday. i wrote back asking which "friday or monday", they didnt write back.
its wensday and ups already came. am i wrong for wanting to request a refund through my bank for the missing parts? i just called them to find out the procedure, they started the claim, but they told me i need the amount that would need to be refunded to me, and i should give them until friday, and i should make one more phone call to rustys before going through with the claim.
they did offer me somewhat discounted shipping to get the initial sale, so i dont want to be a total jerk, but this is rediculous. my brake hose popped when i instilled the rear springs, and its been sitting put together with vice grips on the hose and the stock u bolts temporarily. they are too short in the rear so its not even driveable. for almost 2 months.
the springs are a good deal, they came fast, they look like a decent product, i cant take that away from them.

I ordered the gauge panel overlay from them and it took six months and several phone calls and e-mails before it arrived. I feel ya.

I ordered a kit and got at least a half dozen different stories. When I finally called to cancel my order they asked "Where are you gonna get a kit any faster?" I dont know how they stay in business. Seams all you ever hear are stories like this

You should call up and ask for Rusty. He's right to the point and makes things happen.

I got mine within a week, even had an extra u-bolt in there. I was very happy with the price/service.

6" Lift

I bought a 6" lift that took a good while to be delivered, too long. It took too many phone calls to Rusty's to figure out what was going on. Glad I don't need another one. BTW 6" all spring lift is rough as hell, choose another route.

I had no issues with Rustys and have bought 2 lifts from them. My Wagoneer lift did come from a second party though. However I was told the springs were on 2 weeks back order and the lift showed up complete 4 days after I placed the order, before I had a chance to convince the wife 4" of lift was almost a neccesity...

I havent gotten the ss brake lines on yet, but that is totally due to the fact the oem ones like their current homes... The rest of the lift went as expected.

They wont be getting another $ from me.

As close as some of these types of threads get to actual "bashing"... I think they are very important to keep alive. I have never dealt with Rusty's and after reading this I don't think I will.

On that note, don't rely upon Rough Country for good customer service either. Even though I had never heard anything bad about them until my experience with them... but that is a different story.

The vendor didn't sell you the kit directly either?

I had a pretty good experience with Rusty's. My 4" lift came within a week of order and was in good shape. The only complaint I have is over the poor instructions. Otherwise all was there, even had a couple of extra (wrong size) U-bolts...

the lift and some parts came quick. that was cool. these other parts are killing me though. i got tired of calling. and emailed them asking them where the stuff is, and for a tracking number. they have emailed me 3 times since then, telling me you should see it today... oh not yet? today. oh not yet today. no tracking number.

Ok, first of all, this should probably be moved to the Vendor discussion area..

I truly wish that folks would limit their discussion to helping someone w/ their issues.

I truly do not believe this adds to this discussion...no more than my own comments...other than.

As always, contact them, don't quit, ask pointed questions. One of the most effective things which works for me is to ask to speak to someones' supervisor.

Folks do not seem to know how to deal with the idea that they are not perfect anymore. Make them justify why to you.

Ask for the BBB's phone number from them.

Good luck w/ your issues.

It contributes the fact they are not all bad. I do totally agree though if you have nothing to contribute then you shouldn't.

To be fair I gotta say I've had good experiences both times I've ordered from Rusty's, and one of those was the exact same order as the start of this thread.

I've had problems with other vendors that people frequent on this forum, and I've had great service from those same vendors as well. At the end of the day, no one is getting rich building kits for these old rigs. As far as I'm concerned, I'm just happy I can actually order parts and upgrades. I'm not trying to make excuses for anyone, just saying...
