I found thatmy wife was more accepting to say we were being foster parents.
Going to put in some new seats maybe a spring flip, and enjoy a rare truck....Unless someone is looking for a '83 honcho step side, 6cyl/4speed?

$6000 and some paperwork and it's yours. I'm sure it will have the occasional whining, leaking, and simple joyfulness just like a new baby offers.

6k seems like a fair price, if it's rust free. A little bit more than I'm wanting to pay. I understand keeping it out of the wrong hands, wouldnt want it becoming a mud truck when it grows up.

PM'd you. I'll get photos of the underside, floor pans, frame, and all. From what I saw yesterday, it was a super clean truck. And not just "cleaned" to sell. The current owners haven't taken it off road. It was the guys fathers truck. The owner before was a doctor that had it garaged all the time.
When I opened and closed the driver and passenger door, it didn't take the effort my '79 does. Amazing to feel how the doors are supposed to work!

So the dilemma is to keep the 83 honcho and move the driveline from the '79? Or leave the honcho alone and sell it.
I'm off to install some odds and ends for a tune up, change the fluids, new battery and cables, fuel filter, etc.
It's solid, no rust at all, and drives straight as an arrow. The springs are soft and supple. Has a bit of an exhaust leak and the valve cover has the typical seep.

The '79 rides on 35's and runs Chevy tbi350/700r4/Dana 300. This would be a fun fall project swapping drive lines or just swapping cabs and beds?
But then that put the honcho definately in the wrong hands and makes me a villain!

Sounds like you can only have one Jtruck. Spiff up the 83 and sell it for funds to finish the out 79. That is my take anyways...

One j truck is enough as we have a built streetable rock crawler as well. We were building the '79 for our "Colorado" truck to leave at my parents in salida but just haven't had enough time. Having two j trucks only complicates matters. The '83 was penance to the jeep gods to help someone in trouble. We will give it a month or two and see what happens of anyone else would be wanting one.

I would keep the 83 as close to stock as possible. Please do not butcher it by swapping in generic motors drive train.

I got the previous owners wiring all removed and cleaned up. Working under the dah in 100 degree weather is brutal!
Parked it with the '79. it looks so small/short!
