Are these EGR, and can I remove/plug them?
I am trying to clean up a bunch of PO work. I am not experienced enough yet to know what is and what is not supposed to be under the hood.
I think these are for the EGR right?
I am in a nonsmog area and this vehicle is used primarily offroad. What are my options for removal or plugging?

Those are air tubes for the smog system and you can definitely remove and plug them. Be careful of snapping those bolts which all have holes drilled through them. IIRC I ended up welding most of the holes shut after I removed mine.

It's called the "Air Guard" system by AMC. It's shown clearly in the factory manual - you should refer to that. It looks like you have a '70s-era Jeep. The 1976 manual is here http://oljeep.com/gw/76_tsm/Section4A.pdf - look at page 7.

Do you have to emission this jeep? IF so, I would keep them. Both the driver and passenger side ones are the newer style with the removable 1-way valve. Both of yours are broken, but that valve is avaible at NAPA and even BJ's I believe. They simply unscrew from the air rail. Do you still have the airpump, diverter valve and hoses?

Nevermidn, noticed you are in a non-smog area. There isn't any chance that might change is it? I know of a couple of folks that de-smogged their rigs only to find out a few years later that the County they live in now requires emission tests.

You can try removing them at the manifold, but the bolts are likely to break. My dad would always just cut the smaller tubes, mash the end shut w/ some vice grips, fold it over, crimp/mash w/ vice grips, repeat a few times until they were like the ends of your toothpaste tube.
