Front Wheel Bearings and Locknut ?

I am putting my front wheel bearing back in after a brake job. I placed the large ring that isn't a full circle (sorry don't know what it is called) inside the hub and tapped in in with a punch and a hammer so that it was fully seated in the hub. Then I packed the bearing and placed it inside the hub with the tapered in first. Next I need to screw on the first of two lock nuts. When I took it off, it was only hand tight, maybe a little less. Is that how I should re-install it? Then the washer thing with the holes in it. I know that the inner lock nut has a little stud that needs to fit inside one of the holes on the washer. Then put the outter lock nut on (again, how tight). This one seemed to be a lot tighter than the inner lock nut. Then the gear thing (I had to tap it in with a hammer too). The lock ring thing, and then the dust cap.

Is that it?

I shouldn't have to replace the inner seal or anything if I didn't remove it right?

I know yall like pics!

A set of instructions with pictures:

http://www.grimmjeeper.com/J-Truck/rotor.html

Short answer: Neither of the locknuts should be hand tight but it's more complicated than just torquing them down. Follow the instructions on that page and you'll have no problems.

tighten the first one till you feel slight drage whenturning the rotor, then backit off to set the locking ring.the outer nut goes to 50ft/lbs iirc

Not even close. If you don't properly torque the inner lock nut your bearings will be loose and that can lead to catastrophic failure in a hurry.

You need to torque the inner locknut to properly seat the bearing. The inner gets torqued to 50 ft-lb (while the rotor is being spun) and then backed off 1/8 turn. Then the lock ring goes on. Then the outer lock nut gets torqued to 50 ft-lb.

thats real close.50 ft/lbs will give ya just a slight drag.have done it this way at least 50 times without any problems at all.

Does anyone know the part # for the seal that goes on the hub to hold the inner bearing in place? I know the outter bearing is held in place with the locknuts. I found several on advanceautoparts.com, I just don't know which one I need.

Axle Spindle Seal?

Spindle Hub Seal?

Wheel Seal?
