Need help what wagoneer is worth

Helping friend to find how much a 1964 Wagoneer is worth. Her husband pasted away and she wants sell this Wagoneer. Here's the background , 230 OHC six , 3 speed on the tree. Floorboards are pretty much rusted away and rear inside quarters are rusted thru. Engine runs and can be driven. The kicker is that her husband bought the Jeep as only having 15,000 miles on vehicle. I asked for any documentation to this fact and nothing shows that this true mileage on Jeep. It a nice wagon at 60 feet, was painted a long time ago and very rough body work done. I going to try to post pictures here but have never done this so might not have success with this. Anybody wants to look at Jeep it is in south central PA. You can PM me if you want more info. Can't seem to get pictures to post. PM and I will email photos.

If it's as rusted as you say it is, even the low original mileage isn't going to help things all that much. Maybe if it's a IFS (independent front suspension) model that might help, but otherwise, it's just an old rusted FSJ. :-/

See the stickies for how to post pics.

As FSJGuy indicated not much. The things have no collector car value so yup it's just a rusted old Jeep with out dated running gear. Your eastern market is different than mine out west but when I bought my 63 2door, with no rust,no dents, orig faded paint, rough front seat. Same eng trans as yours and 4wd worked fine. I had to put new tires on it to drive it home. The eng leaked and used oil but drove it 350 miles home at 55 mph over the Cascades. Ran decent considering it sat for 10 years in the desert. It's been a few years now but I paid $600 for it. Not much demand for these especially if badly rusted.

Hate to bust your bubble, but an FSJ is worth only what you put into it for your own satisfaction.

Pretty much.

There was a 1979 Wagoneer for sale donwtown about a year ago. $750 OBO. Never sold, it has sat in the same spot for over a year now because nobody wants it. It's sad.

I agree with what you guys are saying. I was thinking of if someone would like it for parts, or restore one I don't have the time or resources to complete a restore on one in this condition. I just trying to save it going to crusher. I email photos to all that asked. Let me know if I can help.

Thanks for the photos. Would it be appropriate to be skeptical about the mileage? Any clue to its current drive-ability?

You could sell this to someone who wants to drive it as-is (cheap car), someone who wants to restore it, or someone who wants to build an off-road machine.

Just FYI, the drivetrain of these cars made a huge leap in 1965, and again in 1973-4. Any of the early examples with the 230 have an antiquated and obsolete drivetrain with nothing that a builder would want, except for the body and frame. Plus the 230 has a lot of "issues" that most people would not want to deal with. So unless it's a real creampuff, it's not of much value. If it has a good running 230, the car might be of interest as an engine and parts donor for another 62-65 wagon or truck that's in better condition. A rusty body pretty much destroys most of the value to a collector or a builder.

The only exception might be a IFS (independent front suspension) model, in 2WD (two wheel drive) or 4WD. Or a panel wagon with the swing-out back doors (barn doors). Or maybe a 2-door model. But most are 4-door, 4WD, solid front axle.

Unless it's a rare model, I'd put it up on Craig's List, priced at a few hundred dollars. And list it in the "for sale" forum here, with a few pictures.

hth!

Yes, but that is assuming someone didn't replace the cluster with a lower-mileage unit, didn't tamper with it, and didn't disconnect the speedo cable at some point. The chassis usually can tell you about how many miles are on it. That, and looking at the bearings in the engine, but nobody wants to go that far into something before buying it. Plus, that would also have to assume that the engine is the original, non-rebuilt engine.

It would be good for someone with an M715 trying to keep the original drivetrain functioning.

Looking at the rust and wear on steering wheel I think it has more that 15,ooo miles. The Jeep starts and drives, I did not drive it so all I cannot say what handling is like.

Pretty sure that old Jeeps have only 5 digital mileage odometer. I know my Grandpa's 1979 Cherokee had that 5 digital odometer. Pretty sure that the 1964 Jeep is at 115K or maybe even 215K.

well

Stick it on Craigslist for $500.00 OBO. It's only worth what someone will put in your hand at the time you sell it. Not a lot of demand unless your in the right place at the right time. Not many are out there that don't know it isn't worth much.

Correct. Six digits, but that includes tenths. They roll over at 99,999.9

So 115,000 is likely, if the car shows a lot of wear. 215K would be really high mileage for a car of this design and this vintage.

Trust me, not many people will drive 30 or 45 minutes just to see what this looks like. I think they'll want to see pictures. Not saying that you have to put pictures here, but it's very easy to put pictures on craigslist.

You know the old saying that pictures are worth millions of words.......
