'89 FSJ--Isuzu 4BD2 Conversion
I've hit a snag and need some help. Swapping a 4 cyl Isuzu from NPR truck into my '89 Wagoneer and I plan on keeping the 5 speed auto trans from NPR and adding divorced tfer case. Wagoneer is drivers side drop and fuel tank is drivers side as well.
Question 1: Recommendation for passenger side front diff to make tfer fitment easier?
Question 2: Can I keep Wagoneer fuel tank? If so, what adjustments or considerations do I need to make w/ the diesel swap?
Thanks for helping a newbie who is in over his head.

A '75-79 Wagoneer axle will be a direct bolt-in for passenger side axle. IDK, about the fuel tank.

Yup late 70's wag front axle will be the easiest swap. Your plastic fuel tank should work but you'll need to run a lift pump to get the fuel up to the IP.

You may run into an issue with the fuel tank as far as location with a divorced transfer case as it may be a tight squeeze time to get a tape measure out. If it is an issue mounting a tank in the spare tire location is an option. I don't know the isuzu diesel but very often a hydroboost brake upgrade is required because diesels don't provide enough vacuum for a vacuum brake booster.
Good Luck

Howdy, where does the exhaust come off the motor, left or right, you dont need the pipe in your way. it is easy to put the fuel tank where the spare tire goes. I used a 85 blazer tank
made my own skid plate

mounted it with 5 bolts

I put the fuel pump on the frame , ran my exhaust down the left side so it was out of the way for the drive shaft and trans fer case.
Good luck

Will take a look at locating in spare and go from there. Thanks for your help. Will get some pics posted once I get some progress.

You will not need a fuel pump for your Isuzu, as it has a mechanical lift pump bolted to the side of the injection pump. You will be swapping in a hydroboost as the exhaust manifold will leave no room for the vacuum booster. Plumbing up the power steering lines is a little interesting since the PS pump is on the passenger side of the engine. I got pretty far into a 4BD1T swap, so maybe my build thread will be of some use:
