Leaking Fuel Pump?
I was underneath the car tightening some transmission lines and noticed a gas leak. It appears to be coming from where I have indicated in the circle. Is there supposed to be a bolt or something in the hole?
Thanks
Ed

No...but it appears the crimp-flange (or whatever its called) may have rusted through or something. OR there may be a weep hole which purpose is to give you early warning the diaphragm is cracked. Don't recall. Regardless, the fix is obvious: time for a new one.

Rust? Are we looking at the same picture Rich?
Hard to say from the picture, I think that is the weep hole. No matter. If it is leaking, time for a new pump.
Austin, good luck finding a pump made here. If it was made in Korea, its probably fine. I would expect China or Hecho en Mexico.

Thought he circled the edge of the pump where the two halves of the diaphragm pump are crimped together. I just threw that in there (rust) because it was impossible to tell from the picture where the gas is really coming from. BUt yes, weep hole more likely.

Nearly lost a car in high school to something like that! Fan blowing all those gas fumes around, not good. Thank god Taco Bell had a fire extinguisher
Might want to change your oil too, when the diaphragm ruptures it will usually leak into the crankcase where the pump arm comes in.

Got it all done last night. Took under 2 hours with interruptions and such. I would suggest to use a ratchet boxed end wrench to remove and reinstall the fuel line from the top of the fuel pump. The open end of the wrench was starting to strip the nut and I could not get it back on tight enought to keep it from leaking. I removed the filter and slipped the wrench all the way down to the nut without any issues.
Thanks
Ed
