Rear Locker Suggestions
I am just finishing my slight build on my '86 GW. I am currently running 33x10.5 BFG MT's and will be running them for a while. No crazy wheeling planned but I want the rig to be capable on the trails. I am thinking of a lunchbox locker for my D44 rear. I am leaning towards an aussie if I can find one in stock. I am not opposed to a lock right but I have heard a few more positive comments on the aussie. Any thoughts on these lockers or any others that I should consider as well?

I have an aussie in the front d44 35" BFG tires. Works great. But keep in mind it really only is in use when my hubs are locked and my 208 is in 4wd.

Lock Right, made in USA right here in SC.
I've got one in my front and rear, and they handle my 37's w/ no issues.

Lock rite in my 81 with 31's no issues. Does want to walk out in snow in 2wd though. As soon as you start pulling with the front end that goes away.

I've had the aussie before, Loved it. Finding the D44 aussie is a pain though, they're always out of stock.
Why not the Spartan Locker? Cheaper than an aussie and basically same design.

I had an aussie locker with 37's and wheeled the piss out of it. No issues. That was a yota axle though not a D44.

Another good review for Aussie. Mine's been in since 2005 and running 31's. Still works like the day I put it in.

All of you who are supporting other countries with your purchases of non-USA made products should be ashamed. Sure, you might save a few bucks. But what happened to supporting our own? The problem with our economy starts with us, not the gov't who everyone blames. After all, we elected them into office, so who is really to blame? Buy USA. End rant.

I've run a lock right in a Dana 30, Dana 35, & F&R Dana 44's with no issues. Easy to install & replacement pins & springs are cheap & easy to get is needed (which I never did). They were my locker of choice in my YJ when it still saw road duty & before I went tons w/spools.
I have a lock right waiting on the shelf for my waggy. Just need to make the time for install.

I am running an Aussie in the rear of my Jeep. I am very impressed with the capibility my Jeep has with it. I followed my budy up a local trail, and I was able to push through every tough spot that my buddy was having trouble with.

Its not about saving a few bucks to some of us. Superior products get my vote. Aussie lockers are tried and true. Been wheeling mine HARD for over three years now. Heard horror stories from almost every other lunchbox locker manufacturer including the US made ones. I also believe in buying American made products whenever possible, but some situations are not justifiable...especially if it means i might have to buy the part again.

LockRight by Powertraxx has been around way longer than the Aussie, and I've never heard a horror story about them. Improper installation, or running 42" tires maybe, but nothing from the product itself failing. Re-using the stock cross-pin is also a known failure, and most replace with a hardened one. I've been cheap and re-used the stock ones with no problems to date. I too like to go with the tried and true method, and Aussie hasn't been around long enough to get my vote. (Or at least not at the time I made my decisions/purchases) I even went with a used LockRight for my front d44, that's how much faith I have in their product.
FYI, the Detroit lunchbox lockers were the ones that received alot of bad publicity. I haven't really heard any others have major problems.

I have had a Lockright in the rear D44 w/33s on my GW since 2003 and have wheeled it pretty good over that time. I will not install a lunch box locker without a hardened cross pin added for an extra $30. The rear end ejected the left axle shaft almost 3 years ago and filled the housing full of shavings. Flushed it out and put another shaft in with new bearings on both sides. In spite of all that, the Lockright has never let me down.

You know, this isn't a 'why you should buy American' thread. It's a thread about which lockers people would suggest. Suggesting that one satisfier of a specific product is that it's made in the U.S.A. is valid. However telling ME that I should be ASHAMED because I picked up a locker made in Austrailia is, frankly, crap. I have nothing at all to be ashamed of. And for all you know I didn't do it to 'save a few bucks'. I support 'my own' when I want to support my own.

Let's stay on topic, folks.
If I actually INSTALLED the lunchbox lockers that are sitting in my garage in a box, I might actually have some input.

Spartan locker is a good quality piece. I have installed Aussies, lockrights, and Spartan lunchbox lockers and they are all about the same quality. The Spartan is the less expensive (got mine new on EBay for $150) locker, easier to install with the wires that hold in the springs and it comes with the hardened cross shaft. I don't know how you would even argue Aussie over lockright or vice versa because they are basically the same as is the Spartan bit the cross shaft saves you $30 and it costs less to boot. My vote is Spartan locker. Have one in my current rig in the front on 36s and it works great.

Well, that would be my input also.
With that said, the last time I saw ice it was in a glass with an umbrella sticking out.
