New Member, New FSJ!
Hi All,
Just wanted to introduce myself as a new guy, up here in PA. I picked up a '79 J20 this weekend and have already been reading TONS of threads here, looking around at stuff I need to fix/work on my truck. I'll post a couple of pics in the evening, but overall I'm pretty pleased with my buy, and will be glad to have something very unique on the road (eventually, the truck hasn't been inspected in like 10 yrs).
A few things on my initial short (and growing) list of fixes/to work on include:
-Adding a windshield washer reservoir, pump, & squirter (whatever the heck you'd call it, haha)
-Getting my headlights working (interior & marker lights work)
-- That could turn into just figuring out the whole electrical system...
-Sorting out the heater/defrost vacuum lines (or something like that, I know nothing about car HVAC systems)
-Figuring out if I can convert the PO installed BM floor shifter back to column shift (TH400 trans)
... there are plenty more, but these are the ones I'm going to try to tackle first.
I'm don't know too much about what I'm doing, but I've certainly learned a lot just from reading the forums here!

Oh you'll have fun. Assuming it's been maintained 79 was a good year for these rigs.

The windshield washer should be easy to add. It's a fairly simple system and everything bolts on.
It might get complicated IF you want to add turn signal stalk control if it wasn't already there. Otherwise, stick a switch somewhere and you're set.

Pics
Thanks All! Here are some photos:
I picked it up, and the PO had switched the grill to the final style grill, luckily they kept the muscle grill, which I much prefer! However, the headlight housings and lower grill are attached with drywall screws!

That truck looks like it is in GREAT shape!
I think you are the closest person to me. I moved to Harrisburg, but work in Mechanicsburg...

Thanks everyone!
Yeah, I'm pretty pleased with the shape its in.. I actually traded a guy a Wrangler that I had recently bought that turned out to be in a horrible state of rust (holes in the frame, a tub that looked good outside and pretty much deteriorated under & inside).
I think I'm probably going to have some electrical gremlins to work out, and I hope to get the original gauges working, the PO added some aftermarket stuff and I think they were trying to make it look like a hot-rod in there.. I'd like to get the interior back to mostly stock.
It's going to be a semi-slow process, as I won't really get to work on it until weekends. My end-goal is to make this truck into backup dd/2nd vehicle, so that I can get rid of my Nissan Titan and pick up a little more economical car for dd.
