FSJ street race/drag race stories
Just out of curiosity, does anyone have some stories about out running the local Mustang light to light? Any E/Ts in the 1/4 mile? I know most FSJs are slugs--but hey, so are Hondas.

Greg's stories are no stories, but more like adventures in laying waste to the unexpected.

I don't have any stories worthy telling of except on how I kept up with a 401 powered Cherokee and 5.0 Bronco...
Then later was walked by a 4.0 Wrangler and VTEC ricer

I used to have lots of fun with my '76 401 Wagoneer. Something about being blown away by an old dinosaur makes people take more than just a second look

I wouldn't know anything about racing. I think my '76 holds the current FSJ record with 11.57 @ 115. There aren't a whole lot of street cars faster than that around my area so it's a whole lot of fun. It's actually gotten a bit of a reputation around here and it's kind of hard to get races. It's only been beaten twice with the current combo this year. People's reactions are the best, lol.

I once took a subaru outback at the lights!
It was a double lane that went down to one and I'm pretty sure the guy thought he was gonna get in front of me and the cars behind me. Too bad for him. It felt great!!

My J10 gets to 10mph real quick! But the gearing (and that fact that it has a 258) makes it pretty slow.
My old cherokee however back when it had 31's would move pretty good. Rev it to 2k or so and drop the clutch and it would jump up to 35 (shift point in 2nd gear) pretty quick. After that aerodynamics (or rather, the lack there of) kicked in. Would have need more power to keep the rate of acceleration up.

not a racing story, but, i was hauling some scrap in the truck. i pull up to a stop light next to a porsche. the guy starts reving the engine, trying to impress the chick in the passenger seat. so just for fun i rev up the truck, which only has a glasspack and nothing else. both him and the girl look over at me. he didnt think it was as funny as i did.

401 vs a hotrod 70's Camaro
Worked in the city and drove my '78 Cherokee in occassionally. Would come across this nice Camaro (74-76 I think) and the guy and I would nod in approval at each other. His Camaro was very healthy sounding and my 401 was masked by a stock exhaust with no cat. Came up to a light one morning next to him and revved the Cherokee just screwing around. He was game.
I have to say that my 401 smoked him because all he got on green was wheel-spin and all I got was mashed back into my seat as the Cherokee rightfully hooked up.
I got lucky

Copy/paste of the story of my first night using nitrous on the new motor.
1st pass: Ran on motor against a 4th gen Camaro Z28. I beat him with a 13.62 @ 101. That's .4 slower than the old motor but this one makes more power. Pretty disappointing.
2nd pass: The first run was so close the Camaro wanted another shot. I sprayed it this time and it went it's first "official" 11 second pass, 11.96 @ 114. I was expecting a mid 12 second slip so I was shocked. This thing loves the bottle.
3rd pass: Ran the second quickest street truck there, an SVT lightning. He ran 14.82 @ 99 to my 12.02 @ 113. I forgot to turn on the bottle heater so it was a tad sluggish compared to the first pass.
4th pass: Got paired up with a honda "type R" job. Put the hurt on it, 11.93 @ 114 to a 14.71 @ 95
5th pass: LS1 Trans-Am almost ran into me in the staging lanes. Kind of ticked me off and I let him know about it. I arranged for the starter to pair us up and tried to get some $$ flowing but he chickened out. He did a BIG 'ol burnout and double bulbed me. Failed for him because I took my time lighting that second bulb. I treed him by over 1/2 second and ran 11.85 @ 113 to his 12.65 @ 113.
6th pass: Talked up a local street racer and cooked up a race. Fox body Mustang with a built engine and nitrous. He's got quite the rivalry going with one of my good buddies so there was a lot of pride on this race. Since we were running 'no time' I let it all hang out. The Mustang hooked HARD and pulled the wheels about 2 feet off the ground, just flat out boogied. He got about a length ahead of me but then I reeled him in and just played with him the rest of the way down the track. He honestly thought it was a close race. Got him all buttered up for my buddy to win all his $$ tomorrow night. No time for this pass but it was the highlight of my night.
Long story short,
-ran terrible on motor
-ran a lot better on nitrous
-undefeated all night, including 2 grudge races
It was a good night for Jeepin'.

I was street racing this guy one time but he just kept passing me. When he would stop to let more people off at the bus stop, I'd catch up.
