another seat question

i just replaced the ratty seats that were in my 81 for some out of a 78 and the passenger bracket bolted right up. but the driver bracket sits higher on the right side. i thought they were the same brackets, am i wrong? im thinking of just cutting out the stud, and using a spacer with a bolt. my other option was to bolt a new bracket to the old one to make it taller.

I think the difference is in the tunnel over the tranny. My 79 had the right side drives of the old Qtrac and the 82 has the left hand drive unit. Use the 81frames under the 78 seats.

i would, but the 81 frames are electric, and all my wiring is shot. how hard is it to hardwire the seats in?

Which wiring? The wiring on the electric base or from the connector to the harness? If it is from the connector to the harness, it's easy, just replace the wiring.

If a girl(me) can do it, you can.

the harness was cut from the front door back by the PO. not sure why, so signs of fire or shorts. all the dash works, but the elec windows, seats, tail lights and tag lights didnt work. re-wired the tail and tag light, but converted the front and rear windows to manual, looking for manual parts for the tailgate. i hate wiring. and if i wire everything up, and the motors are shot, then i've wasted my time.

i want to use durango seats, but i need good bases. really just need it to scoot forward, and recline.

Hook the motors up to a battery and set them where you want them, then leave the wires under the seats if you need to adjust them in the future, just get another battery. I used a battery charger and a couple of alligator clips to connect to the seat mechanisms to move the seats around when I was disassembling mine. I would re-wire the seats, but you don't have to.

Yes, if you hook them up backwards the seat will move in the opposite direction of what you want. If that happens just reverse the power on the wires and it will move correctly.

how hard would it be to take the old covers off and replace them? can i bolt the manual seats to the electric bracket and still keep the adjustment ability?
