Cherokee Chief vs J10 seats
I still need to work out a pair of seats for my 79 J10. I recently found a small salvage yard that has a badly rusted '83 Widetrack Chief with decent front bucket seats. My question is, will Chief or Wagoneer seats fit in a J10 without drilling new holes?
I want to pull the seats and some door parts. Specifically the inside latch handles and spindles. If there is anything that someone on here needs, I can check this truck for it. If nothing else, I can probably take pics with my phone and provide the address of the yard. Thank you for your time.

What years are the Cherokee and the J10? I believe that mid 79 and below the floor pan is the same. The later 79 and up, the floor pan will be different. A friend tried to take manual seat bases from a 76 or 77 and tried to put them in a 82. Don't remember exactly what the difference was, but the bases didn't line up right.

My truck is a 79. It came with the bench seat originally. The Chief in the salvage yard is an 83 model. I know they went from passenger drop front axle to driver's drop. I wasn't sure if it changed the floor pan that much.

Is your truck pass or driver drop? If the drop is the same, then, the brackets are the same. Hope this helps out.

No, my truck is passenger drop. The other is drivers. That's why I needed input. I guess the holes and brackets are different, then. Thanks.

If the seats are nice, I'd risk it. They may not bolt up exactly, but I expect you can make them work.
If I get a chance later, I'll compare my '77 and '82 and see if I can find an obvious different.

Just get a set of brackets from a 77 SJ and use the seats from the 83. I don't think that the seat mounting holes changed where as the floor mount holes and floor contours did some.

Well, they are in decent shape. The driver's side is power, so I'd have to rig that up as well. The back seat looks decent too. It's a shame the body is so bad. I was gonna buy that set of brackets from you, Halftrac, but everything came up at once, and I went away for awhile. I appreciate the input. I'm still staggering around trying to put everything back together at this point.

Now Wagon seats set back (lean) causing them to hit the rear window. Ive had two sets of Wag seats in my J10 and they dont fit well.

I was afraid of that. The seat I have in it now is one of those cheap, high back buckets from the parts house. It's on a home made bracket. It make the truck uncomfortable for anything more than a quick trip, because it's up against the back window, and can't move.

The ones I have are for an '85 which may not fit w/o modifications. Do you want pictures?

The difference is in the mounting brackets only. The center hump changed slightly and when you use the later year style on a 79 and down truck it will cause the seat to sit crooked a bit.
Like mentioned before . Just get a set of earlier brackets and bolt your newer seats to them.

Thanks for the pic. Do you have problems getting them to slide back far enough, since they're taller than the stock J10 seats?

They're all the way back in the pic. I'm 6' and it's OK.
Here's another pic from "my view", the passenger seat is forward in this pic.

I'm in Orlando, pm me a price and address, and I'll roll down there on Saturday. I have to go to Cleremont anyway, so I'll go to Lakeland and come back to Cleremont.
