79 Cherokee Project- Finally posting build thread.
First, I want to give a big thank you to everyone on this site for all the help and instruction I have received. Special thanks to Michael for his hands on assistance, to Jeepin Pete for building great motor mounts and offering helpful insight, to Snowshoe for buying alot of my unneeded parts
I started this project in Feb 2010. My time has been spent working, or working on this. So, I haven't been able to post a build thread until now.
I originally bought the cherokee in the fall of '09 and started to plan the project. I wanted this truck to be my daily driver and weekend warrior with my boys. With the lack of ready availability of replacement parts, I decided to go with a modern driver train. I chose a 5.3Vortec with 4L60e automatic and 241T/C. This would call for custom driveshafts and fab'd shifter linkage. No real problem.
I wanted some comfortable highback buckets, 3series BMW's worked great with some fab'd seat brackets. A center console, reworked one from a Tahoe. A rhino swap, early 3pc bumpers (real chrome).
Body was blasted down to bare steel and all the holes/rust repaired. Then some sweet chromabase paint with satin black trim. Wheels and tires and I'm almost done. Still need for interior finishout, but I drive her every day!
And lastly, everyone loves pics, so here you go! Will try to post more pics as things get finished.
As I bought her

Very nicely done
Great job looks almost brand new. Great upgrades and choices of them. I really like the side steps what kind are they?
Again you have done it proud.

The gauges are "normal" lighted gauges, so its just a matter of wiring them to come on with the headlight switch.
The side steps are LUND, for a 2door Tahoe 90s era, bought off Craigslist.
The seats (need to post a pic) are from a mid 90s BMW 318ci which is a covertible. They have to be from either a ragtop or a coupe so they fold forward for backseat access.
Thanks for all the positive comments!
