Suburban/Jeep? day dreaming
So bringing the family home after a week of camping in the BC rockies, and wasnt enjoying the towing speeds the Suburban offered so started to day dream about building a decent tow rig.
We like the space the Suburban offers, but I hate the 5.7s lack of power, I love Cummins engines and Jeeps so want to combine em all. Thinking about a Dodge Cummins frame with an extended Wagoneer body on top.
Would want full size doors front and back, to keep the wife and kids from complaining, and wondering if anyone has done something similar? Have seen the buildups where people do the full size doors front and back on trucks but not with a Chero / Wag body.
Lets hear some ideas when you get a moment.

This one is owned by Zack at ZM Jeeps. I think this one is slated for a 500 inch Cadillac, But something like this with a nice diesel would make a SWEET tow rig/family hauler.

That is a sweet ride - maybe a bit longer than I would want - but looks exactly what I was thinking about. Toss the stretched Jeep body on top of a dodge long box truck frame and update the interior with 3rd row seating like the suburban.

If I owned that rig, I would have to regularly clean drool off of my front windows :P

What condition is your burb in? I like burbs. More room, reliable easy to get parts for and hopefully w/ barn doors so I'd opt for a motor swap rather than a major Wag reconstruction for a family hauler/tow rig. I like the Wag body style better but it'd be tough to go back to a tailgate after having barn doors.

I had this idea as well...
Not as good off road and photoshoped, but roomy
The Extend-o:
Suburban-like

For the amount of time I would actually spend behind the wheel Joe might be right. Swap the engine out to the Cummins and call it a day OR swap the suburban body onto the Dodge frame.
Just have these Jeeps sitting around and might be fun to merge some together.
I like the photo shop pics there CJ. Thanks

on the up side
With extending the rear doors to be full without the wheel wheel cutout you can run a full length window in the door and it will still go all the way.
Just another thing to add to the Pro: list for doing it.

Buy a 3/4 Suburban w/ a 6.5L diesel. Find one with a blow engine if possible. Swap in the Cummins. The Sub is more that up to a Cummins, and the swap has been done countless times.
I've seen Longtrac up close and personal, and it is a sweet rig. But you are talking many hundreds of hours to build one like it.
