It held up good for a while......until I was climbing a big hill and looked in my mirror to see that the latch had opened up and the carrier was bouncing around wildly almost ripping the mount out of the body. Will be building a proper bumper with swing away carrier before too long. But it is still holding up. It would have been ok but the latch was missing the spring that makes sure it stays closed (my bad). You do have to be careful when opening and closing it but it will hold up as long as you not doing any crazy wheeling.

Where is devils pass?

Also, I've always wanted to do wheeler pass in the winter with other rigs.

its funny, nobody realizes we have snow that close, haha.

How was potato ridge in the winter? If it was last year, im not sure. I went last summer but apparently the fall rains made the trail way more technical? I havent been up there since i first got my wag.

good to know, thanks. im fabricating a hub for the wheel cause i dont like the stick thingy it has. and to prevent it from swinging open, doesnt it have a hole for a padlock on the lacth? why not put a pin or bolt in to keep it shut

I don't remember if that was this last winter or the winter before. But we couldn't make it all the way.....the snow was crusted over pretty bad. But it was fun trying! It has gotten tougher in the last year, but thats a good thing!

Cool, want me shoot you a PM or email or something next time we set up a little run? A lot of the time we tend to do more scenic stuff, and its only ever 3 or 5 jeeps.

Yeah your right.....that stick thingy is a big pain in the a** to get the wheel on. And yes, I should have had the latch pinned shut....
When I build my bumper the tire carrier is going to be a reciever hitch type mount in the center of the spare wheel so I can have different mounts to carry various things....first will be a bike rack.

Sure....I'm always up for some wheeling when the work schedule allows.

I have no sense of distance with views like this....all I have are pine trees, marsh grass, sand and salt water where Im from. How far away are those mountains from you in the distance? What time of year was this?

Draglink...its probably 4 or 5 miles to where the wash starts going up the mountain. I can't remember what time of year it was....date stamp said Oct 24 of 2010...but that doesn't sound right for having that much snow.

I remember running Potato Ridge in my Samurai back when I was stationed at Nellis...

I remember one particular Potato Ridge trip our group ended up in Pahrump...then things REALLY got interesting...good times.
