Odd Dream... SoCal get together

I had the craziest dream last night. Usually I don’t drive my jeep unless I’m heading out to surf or I need the extra cargo capacity. But I was driving around in an underground/multistory parking lot, and all of a sudden I entered a section that was all FSJs!!!

I saw a some people and pulled up next to them in ‘The General’ and asked them what was going on. They informed me that is was a classic jeep gathering.

I couldn’t believe it!!! How did I miss it!?!?!

So, the question is that I’m from SoCal, Orange County. Anyone want to get together and form up a SoCal gathering?

I'd be in. But you're location is a bit far for me. Maybe somewhere halfway between the Bay area and orange county?

It's been tried a few times...give it another shot, post up in the regional chapter forum and see what happens.

Main issue always seems to be the distance between everyone.
SoCal is larger than some states, and driving for a meet-up can be hours for some.
Example it took me almost 4 hours to drive 140 miles before I left on vacation to drop off the pooch with family.
The reverse trip home only took 2 hours, so you just never know what traffic is going to be like.

I'm always game, but have missed a few opportunities due to family stuff, and not having enough time to drive to some.

Lets see if we get anyone from San Diego. I'd be up for Long Beach, but if we get a bunch of people from San Diego and LA, I'd say lets keep it in OC.

Lets just get some heads first.

I can't imagine tons of folks getting too exited about paying the fuel costs to go to Los Angeles. Might get a better turnout planning a meet farther out like up around Wrightwood or some such.

I am in. As long as I actually have a running FSJ to bring. Otherwise it will just be my smiling face with a pocketful of pictures.

Glad to hear others are taking their rigs to the beach. I love tossing the longboard on the roof and heading down to San O.

If I had the cash, I would pick up this one. It just seems to belong on an AMC Full Size.

I'm with Bruner up in the Monterey Bay area. Meet us halfway and we'll be there! And bring all of the spare parts you don't need, cause I probably need 'em.

Oh yeah baybee! We gotta have a SoCal Meet & Greet!!

I've been all over from Monterey Bay on down to the border area in San Diego and we have members all over out here. Its about time we actually have a really good get together.

What do you all think about Ventura County or maybe even Santa Barbara? There are quite a few really cool places. Right here in my hometown of Camarillo there is the Community Center which is only two minutes off the freeway max, where we could park 300 FSJs. I can find out from the Park and Rec Dept if we could hold an "official" type event there or we can use it as a really BIG place for an informal meeting place. There are a few places we can go to hang out with a decent amount of parking to hang out and eat like Chuys; a really well known mesquite broiler here in CA and AZ. I can also think of several places off the top of my head right around here where we could meet right on the coast and/or the beach. I'd be willing to go down to a chosen beach and grab up some spots if anybody is interested in camping overnight saturday to sunday or whatever. If anyone was interested in a lil fun run we could make a small jaunt between the Rock on PCH onto the 101 north thru Ventura County and into the Santa Barbara area around the pier and boardwalk. I know it'd be kinda tough for some but every 4th friday night from 5pm to 8pm there is the "Classic Cruise Night" here in Old Town. It'd be kewl to totally mob the place with an FSJ Invasion!! I have tons of ideas and being local can research whatever and do some foot work to make this work out.

Oh yeah ... RED20 made a really good suggestion of a parts market ... good ideas guys!!

POST UP PEOPLE AND WE CAN REALLY MAKE THIS A ONE!!

I set up a So. Cal. forum specifically for this (see sig), but no one takes advantage of it. We've only had two meets, and two other people showed up each time.

Anyway, the only meet I'm currently up for is at my house, since I need to find a way secure my aux fuel tank or swap in one from a Blazer.

*EDIT* If this happens in or near Long Beach, I'd definitely be able to make it. I just don't want to drive too far with hockey pucks holding in my fuel tank, lol.

Pismo Dunes... Half way between S.F. and L.A.... And one of the few places left you can drive on the beach.

I was just going to add that you should post up on the SoCal FSJ site. Only a few of us out this way that I know of, but I see Wagoneers and Cherokees all the time on the rode. Anything that gets's us together is a good thing.

After consulting a few mapping sites Pismo is actually a hour and a half north of the closest mid line point of interest. Santa Barbara is actually the most central location between the Monterey Bay area and San Diego. Its a great place to visit, but a lot of what is up there overnight wise is expensive as well as limited number of places for any decent size group to congregate at without having to pay out.

Lightbulb SOME IDEAS TO KICK AROUND ...

Its kind of a broad subject so how about we narrow down who is interested in what and see what we see from there ...

1a) Are you in to do an overnight :
~ tent ?
~ motel ?
~ camper ?

1b) If its an overnight do you want to be at :
~ the beach ?
~ a lake ?

2) Do you want to do one simple group meal or bring your own the whole time ?

3) Do you want to do a FSJ parts flea market thing ?

4) Do you want to do a mini fun run ?

5) Do you want to stage a mini FSJ invasion on a local hang out?

6) Do you want to try to plan it to happen with a local car show type event ?

7) What weekend in August sounds good :
~ 6th & 7th
~ 13th & 14th
~ 20th & 21st
~ 27th & 28th

8) Any other suggestions ?

I would love to make the trip up north past LA, but to be honest, it's going to cost cover $100 for me in gas alone just to get to ventura. With how work has been recently, I can't afford $100 on gas.

Let me go through these though...

1a) Are you in to do an overnight : Tent

1b) If its an overnight do you want to be at : Beach

2) Do you want to do one simple group meal or bring your own the whole time ? Maybe someone with a large smoker or BBQ could setup and we all bring our own meat. Also, people who bring tofu will not be allowed to enter.

3) Do you want to do a FSJ parts flea market thing ? Not a bad idea. I'm not up for a flea marker, but if you've got pieces to sell, bring'em.

4) Do you want to do a mini fun run ? I'm not going to partake; need new tires. However, it would be fun for everyone else!

5) Do you want to stage a mini FSJ invasion on a local hang out? Depending on the numbers, lets all come to conclusion on a city. Then figure it out.

6) Do you want to try to plan it to happen with a local car show type event ? This could be cool. We'll bring all of our rust buckets and brag about them while ragging on all the sit shined collector cars.

7) What weekend in August sounds good : Any, lets figure a place first. The further away, the more money I have to save. :P

8) Any other suggestions ?Having it in LA or OC. What about South Bay on the weekend? Or a large park where we can all park and have a BBQ... need I repeat the tofu statement?

We may end up having to split up and do one around LA and one more central coast. If some N.Cal guys speak up we may have to do 3! I totally understand not wanting to make a big drive. 8 mpg, you know. Of course some genius in LA could probably tune it up better than me and I'd get 25 on the way home.

Date?

Any prospective dates in mind? I'm going to Colorado and Utah aroud mid august. A weekend in the fall perhaps? If anyone is planning for a High desert trip or a low desert trip when it cools off I'm interested. Camping or reasonable motel work for Me just fine. Pismo sounds cool, how about when the monarch butterflys are there?

Beach_Dude, I must apologize. I realize looking at your original post that your dream was of a SoCal gathering, and the rest of us over anxious Californians hijacked the heck out of your thread and dreams, moving the focus north. I'll take my hijacking elsewhere. In the meantime, I'm organizing a meeting with Florida FSJ'ers. We'll be meeting in Texas. J/K

Red face

ummm ... I'm feeling kinda shhtoopid about now. It didnt register when Beach_Dude commented about the $100 in gas, but when RED20 pointed out the fact the this was intended to be a SoCal thing it smacked me in the face.

MY APOLOGIES TO YOU BEACH_DUDE! I think I'll mosey on over to RED20's thread for the Florida M&G in TX.

I'm up for southern, central, and northern M&G's. I'd be more than happy to help out any where I can.
