J10 Honcho Ultimate Adventure 2011 build thread

Starting a build thread in preparation of the Petersen's 4wheel and Offroad Ultimate Adventure 2011.

This truck just returned from a 400+ mile trip to the Walden Co Sand Dunes. It towed my small camper pretty well. Also performed great on the dunes. It was able to keep up with sand rails on the hill climbs

Hoping to make some improvements over the next 3 weeks.

Picked up a spare king pin dana 60

I'm going to pluck out the outer knuckles and axle shafts and use them for spares. Building brackets under the bed to hold the parts so they will be secure.

Sounds like a good plan. Can't wait to see your rig on the glossy pages shown everyone else how it's done.

Where did you get the D60? Did you find a secret hidden junkyard or something?

You got a spare 60? That is sweet. A lot of people are lucky to have one in their rig at all.

Go big or go home!!!!

Changed the oil on both the NV4500 and Atlas 4spd. There was a small amount (normal) of tiny grit on the drain plugs. NO metal shavings (thank goodness).

The oil shown below is from the Atlas 4spd after only about 10K miles. Looked kinda dark to me... The NV4500 oil was a little cleaner after more miles.

Got some doors from a '76 J10. Doing body work on them too.

Boy, this 'build thread' is starting to look more like a restoration thread.

NICE! I like where your head is at!

I love that you have no front quarter panels BUT you are doing body work on the hood!

Congrat's on being picked! I also see that you have the Sponsored GoodYear tires. Did they provide them? Also, are you working with the sponsors to get any Goodies (winches, accessories, hard parts etc) for your ride? Can you post up some larger photos showing the whole vehicle?

I'm running MTR Kevlars on both my FSJ's because I think they are the best all-around tires on the market - not because any sponsor 'hooked me up'.

No, I have not heard a word regarding sponsors. There are a ton of 'confidential' emails floating around between the UA participants, including Pewe and there has not been a word about any sponsors hooking me up with anything....

Here is a pic of how it looked a couple of months ago. I've since tore the entire front cage off (with plans to make a much better one next week) and I've made some modifications to the rear tube assembly, which have not yet been photographed and put on here.

Congrats on geting picked! that rig looks awsome! cant wate to see it on the trail!! I'm Just curious because I am looking at doing a SOA/SF with 63in Springs in the Front, Why did you only put them in the back? and what level of flex/ride are you getting from them?

I really like the rear 63" chevy springs and will use them again in another project.

The reason I didn't use them on the front is simple - I went SOA on the Dana 60 and that was soooo easy to do with BJ's 2" lift springs. The BJ's work pretty good, although, I would like a little more flex.
