Pics of Omaha Orange?

Well, I am going to be repainting my 65. Originally it was Amber Poly, then someone painted it a crummy brown. Since I am going through the whole thing, I am thinking about painting it a different color. Being a big fan of the color orange, I spotted Ohama Orange. Anyone have a pic of Omaha Orange on a Wagoneer?

Also, were there two tone paint schemes in the pre-74 Waggys?

Omaha Orange is Safety Orange, the color used on state trucks, construction equipment and vehicles, road work signs, ect, as well as Schneider and Allied trucks.

Bright colors on a big car tend to be overwhelming after a while. I'd stay away from bright solid colors, esp. those that make a strong statement like Omaha Orange. That color was available from Jeep as a fleet color, but it was targeted mostly at municipalities that were buying work trucks.

I suggest you look at other Wagoneers to get some ideas about other colors. You can go with the solid bright colors if there's something that breaks up the field of color, like wood grain, or the Cherokee Chief stripes, or two-tone.

Personally I like Amber Poly...

I actually like the amber but as I will likely be painting this myself, the thought of a metallic is intimidating. I was pleases to find there was another color under.that brown. It was a well done paint job but a crappy color.

Supposedly base coat/clear coat makes shooting metallics easier. You shoot the color just barely wet - you don't need to shoot a lot of color to get a wet surface. Then you make your clear wet. This makes the color more even, and you can shave off or sand any clear runs, and they won't change the underlying color.

With a single-stage metallic paint, your technique needs to be much better. Different levels of wetness in different areas will show up as different colors. And runs will have a different color from the rest. Not easy.

I also recall that it helps to put some glass marbles in your paint pot, so you can stir the paint every few passes.

Thanks for the marble tip. Good idea. Maybe I will try it out on one of my spare hoods.
