Question Squeal and voltmeter

So my engine squeals occasionally when cold. When it does this the voltmeter goes down. I have tried belt dressing but now I believe the belts are slipping over the alternator pulley. I've found the alternator on the bottom passenger side. This is my 88 GW with the previously threaded electrical problem ( which has baffled me, got a 4 piece testing kit for 2.99, trying to learn how it all works). When it doesn't squeal the meter works fine even with draw. When it squeals you can use lights and heater to watch meter go down. How should I tighten? Loosen alt bolts and pry over with bar? Also isn't shifting smoothly from Park whEn on a slope.

You need to tighten the alternator a tight as you can. Be carefull prying on the aluminum timing cover. The rigs with A/C do not have much belt wrap around the alternator pulley, so it needs to be really tight to not slip. If you can turn it by hand it is too loose.

Hard release from Park while on a slope is normal. Use the parking brake first, then put it in Park. If the brakes are holding properly, this will help.

Use a 19mm wrench behind the tab for the adjustment bolt. There is an area made specifically for a wrench.

Fixd

Got it done! Sounds much better. I was able to spin the pulley by hand initially. While under there I saw several things I have questions about. Will have to get out the camera. Thanks for your help on this issue!
