Photo Thread for Street and Performance section? (Photo attached)

I'm not clear how the new section is supposed to work. (Thanks to Moderators for starting it by the way). Anyway, I was thinking about starting a new thread for photos and renderings of street trucks...try to gather them up in one place...and maybe get some conversation going about what custom street mods work, and which ones don't. Yes, we'll rehash some old stuff, but it's not like 6" lifts haven't been discussed many times over the years. Anyway, I couldn't find a place to start a new thread in the new section, so I'll post here for starters. Maybe the idea is that the thread is supposed to start elsewhere and then the moderators move it as they find appropriate?? Not clear.

Anyway, here's a concept photo to kick it off....(complete with a dirty windshield for the offroad folks)..

We are going to let Greg feel his way around a bit and get comfortable with the controls and such. Once that happens he'll let me know and I'll open it up for posting.

Thanks,
Tad

OK, I'll repost this to that section later. Thanks again.

By the way, the drawing was done by a contributer to one of the street rod magazines several years ago. He pointed out a few styling cues and proposals including the early model hood and razor grill, the raised and reshaped step where the exhaust exits, and the Ford Lightning supercharger poking through the hood. Some other subtle and not so subtle mods really clean up the look... A quote with the drawing: "Wow, wonder why we don't see more Jeeps hot-rodded". Indeed....

Hey Towtruck: Here's a question I never thought I'd ask; how'd you get the 3" drop and that killer raked stance for your truck?
I'm looking for that kind of stance for my panel delivery. I was thinking of just lowering blocks in the front. What did you do & do you have pics of what you did?

Since it is a concept drawing, I am guessing that that question would have to be answered by the eventual builder. Off the top of my head i would guess that it would be built at a 2 wheel drive and use the ambiguous Mustang 2 front end.

would be rear wheel drive, probably run a hemi or an lsx engine, bags all around for stance adjustment.

details: rear bumper flip. remove& fill bumper holes, rechrome.

For clarity, the illustration (green) shows about a six inch drop at the front. My actual truck (avatar/black) is dropped about 3 inches by lowering the sheet metal down over the frame...channeled. (The suspension is bone stock).

66Sidestep,

Sorry, no photos as I did the actual mod many years ago (long before the green artwork appeared in the hot rod magazine) and didn't have a digital camera. Anyway, the front clip is anchored at the front by the two vertical "posts" (angle irons) on either side of the radiator. The inner horizontal sheet metal (guess it's called a valance) at the front of the car is spot welded to those posts. Virtually every piece of front end sheet metal is positioned by that valance/post relationship. Remove that post/sheet metal assembly (after removing all of the other sheet metal and the radiator), drill out those spot welds, and reposition the sheet metal roughly 2-3 inches lower on the posts. Refasten the posts to the sheet metal (I used number 5 grade bolts instead of rewelding), and saw off the left over post that's sticking up (or the hood will hit it). Remount that assembly, and then reposition the radiator as low as it will go without sitting on the cross member or touching the steering box. Drill new radiator mounting holes in the posts. The radiator cap limits the extent of the drop...no problem with the carb or stock air cleaner unless using a hi-rise manifold.

The last step is reshimming the rest of the body pieces....front cab shims on a pickup get replaced by a thin nylon washer...back of cab gets cut roughly in half...front of bed is original...rear of bed actually sits very slightly higher (add shims). On a Cherokee or GW, it would be as simple as replacing the front body donuts with a thin nylon washer and jacking up the rear of the body with shims. Then shim the intermediates as required. You'd want the saggiest springs you can find...especially at the rear...or maybe remove a leaf. I wanted to maintain the load capacity, so left the springs alone.

Thanks Towtruck... Channeled! Whoa! You do quality work.

Brizio, you've got your thumb on the pulse of all things jeep. Thanks for the link, that jeep is sweet. He swapped out the 4wd front axle and put in a modified 2wd axle for the 6" drop.

Channeled, or swaping the axle, either way they do look sweet! I've got to figure out how to get the drop... for now, the old school steering rod on my jeep might get flipped to help with clearance on the drop...

Bigun, I was just talking about his Avatar, the lowered J truck, although those concept drawings and pics are killer looking. Maybe someone on this site needs to talk to Exhibit and get their ride pimped like one of those renderings, eh?!?
