Loctite "green" as a anti theft deterrant?

i googled about loctite products in the hope of using it as a anti theft deterant for items like my mint OEM foglights and the like.

what do you guys think about using the green color loctite 290 for this application? I can always gently heat the nuts at a later time if i have to remove them - but a tweaker thief wont have that luxury

trip

Should work I guess. Just keep in mind what they can't steal they might just break. then you get to not only replace the stuff but fight the green stuff to do it.

Also, if they cant unbolt it then maybe they just might take the whole thing. My gf works in the better part of Oakland (montclair). After a few things were taken off of it (offstreet parking with a security guard) I put a kill switch in the tuffy box (hidden). So far so good.

The green Loctight is for press-fit applications. I've never used it with nuts and bolts, but it will hold a gear drive to it's shaft at 4k RPMs with no load or set screws, once it sets.

A thief cleverly deterred is a thief angered. They may decide to do gross vandalism to your property to "teach you a lesson about who you're messin' with" for a cheap laugh. They do not take well to being schooled. Nasty little urchins...

If you have to have such accessories then a recessed or understated install is usually best; it isn't glaringly calling for thievery, and it looks from the git-go like it will be a pill to quickly remove, meaning the would be burglar will walk and leave it be.

When I parked in a bad section of the city where I worked I used to remove even my radio antenna and shove it under the seat, and put it back on at the end of the day for the drive home.

From experience with green loctite gently heating the nut will not losen it up you will mostly likely end up cutting it off. I use it at work to hold through rods into nuts on hyd hammers for excavators and most of the time we end up torching the nut off. We've had the nut cherry red and the loctite still did not losen up.

Just an FYI

There are , like, 5 different bearing retainer versions of Locktite. Each has its own characteristics. Several are green.
There are also multiple versions of "red" with varying uses.

That would be the "instant adhesive" LockTite found at your local Wally World
