Best guess - anti-backfire valve not hooked up part of emissions nice green

So, from EGR to this antibackfire, to EGR CTO, to EGR port on carb? Why are there three ports? the port in the front is just a pin hole, but air still comes through when blown.

77' 360 jeep cherokee

The green part comes off, then you can see that it looks like a thermostat/diaphram with a spring. The green part pulls right off.

Some early models had a thermally-controlled vacuum valve that controlled how vacuum advance to the distributor is handled based on engine temp. If the bozos at inspection aren't worried about it and your ride is running in satisfactory fashion then you can place this unit on your desk next to the broken piston holding all your pens and letter openers.

I dunno. Mr. Locke is referring to the non-lnr valve. I have not seen on that looked like that.

It's the thingy

That part looks like the valve that controlls the throttle opener, a diaphragm mounted in front of the throttle linkage. This was common on chevrolet engines in the early to mid 80s. It allows the throttle to close slowly at that last bit before idle. Mostly used on manual trans trucks.

That part (throttle opener) would be called a dashpot. I don't know why. It is neither part of the dash or full of, um, leafy green stuff. I suppose it is pot shaped to some degree.

i think smog and burner have a handle on it
i've never seena dashpot that looked like that, and ive only sold 1 in my history of bein a counter man..i remember the one i sold cause i had to ask our resident genius( uncle buddy) wth a dashpot was because i couldn't find one...without lookin in a catalog he went and pulled one off the hygrade shelf...looked like it had been sittin there for years...best i remember of his explanation..its part of the carb system and are rarely used nowadays..i wanna say that they're the predecessor of the modern idle air control valve.

It can't be affiliated with the throttle because the carb has an electrical solenoid.

Obviously I'm going to remove it. Also, I'm having a hell of a time with all the different vacuum diagrams that exist.

I can't find the TCS switch on my block or any additional wires leading to the tranny for the TCS vacuum. It's a 3spd auto tanny on a 360 block. Currently my vaccum for spark goes:

1) EGR
2) EGR CTO
3) EGR Carb Port (I think it's the EGR port)

Also, do both front vacuum ports on the MC 4350 have the same vacuum properties?

Looks like the answer to what is this thing is in your other thread on vacuum diagrams.
I don't know what a TCS is. The Turbo 400 has a vacuum modulator and the kickdown is controlled by an electric switch on the throttle, right above the pedal.

i was thinking the same thingafter lookin at the pic----decel valve...runs off manifold vacuum and connects with the throttle modulating diaphragm on the carb...

.tsm states this " during high speed deceleration, when the manifold vauum reaches approximately 21 to 22 inches, the deceleration valve triggers a vacuum signal to the throttle modulating diaphragm and causes the plunger to move out and open throttle slightly. the increased throttle opening allows more air to enter the combustion chambers and lean out the overrich mixture, therebyreducing the emission of hydrocarbons"

It could be the "Turbo Incabulator". http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rLDgQg6bq7o

Most likely not, but don't you feel better after watching that?

I just went through the same frustration with the vacuum diagrams. We have come to the conclusion that Jeep did a crappy job of documenting all the various configurations: I6, V8, Cali emissions, Fed emissions, etc..

I have a 78 with the MC4350 and I might be able to help. Not sure what you're asking about the front ports having the same vacuum properties, though.
