What kind of engine paint?
I've seen a lot of pretty engines on the site and I'm working toward adding some color to mine. I've been using DupliColor Engine Enamel rated to 500 degrees, which should be fine for most everything under the hood I think. Will this be good enough for the block as well? I painted my exhaust mainfolds awhile back with the same type of paint and some of it burned (turned black). Probably need to use header paint for that, but will the 500 degree paint work on the block?

500 degree paint should be fine. The only part you may see problems with is around the exhaust manifold ports on the head. Otherwise the engine itself shouldnt get to much more temperature than your temp guage says it is which should be around 220-230 degrees at most. Ive painted valve covers with regular spray paint before and its been fine.

Another good paint is One shot sign paint.I've painted engine blocks frames, springs,I even touched up a chrome hedder at the collector to keep it from rusting.Comes in many colors, stays glossy, fluid resistant,Brush it(levels out pretty good) on and no need to tape off,or thin it down and spray it.I've had much better luck with it than dupli-color hi heat paint.

Any specific issues with the dupli-color? So far I've only used it on the valve covers, alternator brackets, and pulleys...

painted my greasy old motor with duplicolor...fast and dirty, we'll see how it holds up.
Looks purdy on the stand....dunno how long it'll last once its in...but i'll concentrate my painting efforts on the engine that actualy gets rebuilt.

Looks good Doc. Same thing for me, the motor looks pretty gnarly and figured some paint would go along way to spruce it up but it doesn't need anything super fancy...

I used the duplicolor stuff when i did my 327. just be sure to make sure parts are nice and clean. And i used VHT (very high temp) brand paint on the exhaust manifolds

It just looses is glossyness pretty fast and dosen't hold up well to engine fluids and cleanerson the block and heads.
