How do you install a fuel sending unit!
I cant install my new sending unit I got from BJ's. The filter and float stick out in 2 different directions
In fact I had to break the plastic in side the old filter to pull the old sending unit out. Am I somehow supposed to install the filter IN the tank? I searched and could not find anything!
Thanks.

I just went thru this myself on an '88,I ended up cracking the plastic clips on sending unit arm So,I put some epoxy on it,let it dry,and has more careful!Ok,make sure you have the float arm ALL THE WAY DOWN,then fold the filter sock right at the top in the same direction as the float arm, then carefully manipulate the float, then the filter sock in.I used a new filter,as I had to remove some SUGAR!(Labor dispute at work!)I also used a small clamp at the top of the filter. All is well now.

To get it in the hole, start the float first, you can get in in the hole sideways and then turn.
Then CAREFULLY put pressure on the wire until you can slip the filter sock in.
The wire is a spring steel so it will take some pressure and not bend, just don't get it in a tight bend.
Take it slow and easy, don't force it, you will kind of see/feel how it has to be maneuvered once the float is in the tank. Hard to describe in words...

Same problem here. Had to clean-up the old sock and re-use. The new sock was too rigid.

OHHH! RAT BASTARDS!!! I hope you broke somebody's nose for that little prank... I had somebody do that to me in High school to my vw... He was smart enough to put it in the oil, and dumb enough to brag about it before the end of the day...

My neighbor destroyed my go kart a while back by putting sugar in it
Anyways, I ended up sliding the filter on in the tank. Its hard to explain but i just kinda pinched it a slid it on right inside, being very careful not to drop it! I noticed the old unit had an additional metal clip, but the filter seemed snug enough.
The old filter was falling apart! the plastic was very brittle and dark brown, and the net seam was split. The little board that senses the tank level had a groove marked in it!
My gauge is now accurate EVEN BELOW HALF A TANK
one little disappointment was I noticed TeamGrandWagoneer includes a replacement plastic ring that secures the sender in place. Even though mine was in fine shape, it would have been nice if BJ's included one.
