TBI throttle cable??
My TBI swap is just a couple weeks away as I get the last few parts I need. I have noticed I may have a problem hooking up the throttle cable to the TBI. I do not have it mounted yet, but my throttle cable uses the ball stud on the carb. The TBI has some round stud with a groove around it that looks like a C-clip goes in.
So those with swapped in GM TBI, how did you connect your throttle cable? The ball stud on the holley is removeable, but the stud on the TBI is not, it is riveted on. Am I better off cutting off the old TBI stud and trying to mount the ball stud, or am I better off trying to find a new throttle cable to work with the TBI stud?

I installed the Howell kit and experienced the same problem...I don't know the best solution...but my stock throttle cable end snaped right on the trottle body and has'nt come off or lose...yet. hopefully some one can tell you a better way to do this. BTW I had to make an addaptor to hook up my cruise control chain.

Same as snowshoe....on my howell TBI it just snapped on, it has a round (not C clip) ( but think of a 1/4 section of soda straw with a strip cut out of it) to hold it in place.
is yours a DIY setup or one from howell? - if the later call them up and get advise - their tech support is very good

I'll be watching this one, I'm planning a junkyard TBI swap in the future too. Never thought about the cable ends and such being an issue really.

Holley (IIRC) has an extension kit that includes a ball stud that will work with our throttle cable.

Yea I forgot to mention, mine is a junkyard install. So it has the stock chevy stud on the TB. Its definately diffrent and the cable will not snap into place. Sounds like howell installs the ball stud attachment.
Another thing that might make a diffrence, is my TB is a 454 unit. I dont know if the cable attachment is diffrent between the 454 and 350 or not. But it might.

I removed the factory stud and used a ball stud. Any McParts house will have them.

Yea I saved the old ball stud off the holey but the stud on the TBI appears to be riveted on. And from the looks of it, if I grind it off the hole left will be WAY bigger than the stud I have.
Any chances a chevy throttle cable might work?

jeeps and guns I think I may have the solution for you. I actually had to drill out one of the studs and install a bolt and some spacers and a few nuts. (I will photograph it and show you what I did.)

Here are some photos of my linkages. I cut the bottom linkage off (Cut and drilled the OEM GM stud off) I cannot remember how it looked but I think it was either too short or too long.
I Hope that this helps. (If you have any other questions please feel free to ask. I will help in any way that I can.)

From what I remember from installing my 454 TBI TB, the throttle lever did not have a place to mount the transmission kickdown linkage. I welded a piece of metal to extend the lever arm and drilled it for the kickdown mount. I also tried to keep the ratio (mounting distance from linkage pivot point to throttle and kickdown lever) the same as the Motorcraft carb so I wouldn't adversely affect shifting.

I'm running a manual trans so I dont have to worry about the kickdown lever. What I am needing to connect to is the top part in your picture. The actual throttle cable. Mine cable is made for a ball stud, but the TB has a perminately attached cylinder shaped one with a groove for a snap ring.
Here is what I am working with:

My throttle cable snaps onto the stud you have pictured. It's not a ball stud, but it attaches securely.

like the others said, it still should snap right on. I have the same tab up top and I simply snapped the original linkage on their. Just apply a little pressure and it should snap right on.

I just went outside and tried it. It does in fact snap on, not the best or most secure fit, but did seem to work ok, but I dont have it bolted down yet (still waiting on the adapter plate). Guess I will just give it a try and see if it holds up before I start cutting and drilling on it. I just saw they were diffrent styles and never tried it.
Thanks for the pics and help.
