Starting issues- Shifter/steering column related

So I am having an issue with starting and it is getting worse. First off, it's a 74 with a 360/TH400 and the shifter has been slightly out of alignment since I got in in January 2010. Occasionally it would not start unless you moved the shifter around a bit, but it suddenly got worse and now won't start in park pretty much at all. Now you have to jiggle the shifter and drop it into Neutral, and then it will start. Any advice on how I can fix this?

I'd start with checking/replacing the plastic/nylon bushings at the ends of the linkage rods connections,They wear and get sloppy and eventually split and fall out. then adjust the linkage.
