I finally got pics of my wagoneer!

It and me doing everything from car shows to offroading. Believe it or not, These are all taken in Arizona. Sorry some of these are a little oversize.
OK, They have all been resized smaller than required. Thanx for telling me. In these photos the paint looks dull, but it's not. It is the original Jeep paint and is quite shiny in person.

That is some beautiful country. The photos are awesome. They look like an old Jeep ad.

Too bad it doesn't have an engine in it right now huh? I am officially in wagoneer withdrawal. I need to drive this thing at least once a week or else I get itchy. It has been two weeks and I won't be done with the engine for another five weeks! Then there is the suspension. It needs new springs as these sag. It is 1/2 inch lower on the left than the right. It has coil-over helper shocks that the PO put on it but it doesn't look any higher than stock so when the coils come off the suspension is going to really sag.

Nice looking rig and I more clearly understand your concerns with trial damage now that I have seen more pictures of it.
The left/right sag things is normal due to the location of the fuel tank, new springs will take care of that.

It allready has some trail damage from when my grandfather, the original owner, used it offroad. The damage is right behind the right front wheel. He also bottomed it out on the tailpipe (I have done the same!), backed it through a garage door and into the grille of his 1934 Ford, and bashed the skidplate into the gas tank several times on rocks. Who am I to remove those badges of honor. There aren't many stock, original wagoneers out there that where used as hardcore trail rigs. He did trails that only people with modified rigs dared to go and he made it out. I will continue to use it just the way it has been for 39 years, a daily driver and weekend offroader. I will keep off the harder trails to preserve it. People in their Wrangler Rubicons are surprised when I lead the way down a trail in my "like, 200 year old Jeep" as they call it. They have lifted suspensions, extra skid plates, winches, etc. But still my Wagoneer manages to go most places they do. 122,000 original miles, original everything and unrestored. The only modifications are an AM/FM radio, coolant overflow bottle, and mud flaps to protect the paint.
If you want to see the complete story of this survivor and family airloom, go to 1972wagoneer.weebly.com. I encourage anyone interested to visit the site.

Lookin good! Maybe I missed a post, But why is the engine out? Is your mom going thru wagoneer withdrawal too? Haven't been up to Schnebly Hill in years. Maybe someday when my waggy is done.

I'm doing ok (not as bad on the Wagoneer withdrawl as Matt). I've been working on getting the Rambler going. I sure miss the family road trips in the Wag, though. The last one was to Stoneman Lake a few weeks ago.

The compression was way down in two cylindars, and well...you know what they say.."One thing leads to another...."

The engine is out to be rebuilt. It had 122,000 miles on it and no major service had ever been done to it. The original owner wasn't that good when it came to mantinence so most parts of the engine are worn out. It was time. All cars go through this if they last long enough. It needs a new timing cover/ oil pump. Ughhhh... they are expensive! The thing I have come to realize about FSJs is they can have saggy suspensions and engines running on six of eight cylinders but they refuse to break down! This car has never broken down one. Not even when pulling a 5000 pound trailer across the Mojave desert in 110 degree heat up hills in the early 1990's. They wait untill you get home to break down! When It actually runs again I would be more than happy to have you allong as a wheelin' buddy. The last time I drove I had it floored to do 75.

It would only go 75 floored. It would go 110 when new. 360 2bbl, THM400, D20, D30, D44, 3.31 gears. Another interesting note: This is a California car and has a california engine. It is painted red instead of blue and has a longer duration cam for more power. Strangely, the Cali engines didn't have more emmision equipment. The Cali engines where rated at just under 300 net horsepower! The rest where 175 net.
My grandfather special ordered it from the factory with oil+ammeter guages, fold down center armrest with bucket seats, no radio, A/C, offroad blackwall tires that normally came only with the CJ, gas tank skid plate, trac-loc, and got the engine options just right so that it only has a couple emmision devices. It was a top of the line Wagoneer but under that luxury was a serious offroader that packed a good punch of power. With the few emmision devices it has I can saflely say it had over 300 horsepower. My grandfather told me he could spin both tires from a stop an lay down several feet of slick on the road. It was a screamer. He payed more than $4000 for it in June 1972

I remember as a teenager my father wanted to buy a wagoneer or scout. He never could find one he could afford but he kept looking. Wish he was still around to enjoy the ones my brother and I have had. My 81 cherokee larado w/t was a tough one and still drove it every day on 5 of 6 cylinders until I had to let it go. Looked just like the one in the old ads and avatars. Good luck with the rebuild and look forward to hitting some trails with you guys some day. My property is only about 60 miles from flag.
