Noise reduction ~ Rhino-Liner VS Dyna-Mat & carpet
I keep going over and over the discussions about this here on IFSJA. I'm going to be running a 4BT Cummins and it would be nice to be able to reduce the amount of diesel and road noise as possible. I like the idea of a rhino liner on the floor because its real simple like to clean yet carpet looks a lot better IMO; and I want it to look real nice when all is said and done.
With carpet I can lay down dyna-mat, but can you lay down more than one thickness of it? Will it stick to itself is what I'm getting at.
I highly doubt you could put down a liner over dynamat, much less that it'd make either much difference or would be cost effective.
What about rhino-liner in the engine bay on the firewall? Would it withstand the high temps? IF so then I could use rhinoliner there and then carpet with dyna-mat inside the cab. Yeah yeah, I know, overkill. I'm the King of Overkill! But I keep hearing about the Cummins being noisy and as much as that isnt going to stop me from running it I'd like to be able to hear myself think and maybe even enjoy some tunes while rolling down the road.

heres an excerpt from my 4bt diesel thread
Sound deadening?
Grace Ice and Water as well as some self adhesive aluminum backed flashing. the aluminium self adhesive flashing worked well. the big key that i didnt know, clean the metal surfaces well and apply when things are Warm, then roll over it to make sure it adhered. i had some roof flashing peal off because i applied it in the cold and it didnt get rolled on in warm weather. its the same composition as dynomat and half the cost.
all .40mil thick and i am applying it usually 2 or 3 layers thick all over the place. so i was really impressed with what a difference all this material made in deadening the noise. i made mistakes that i realized in both my dodge diesel and the Cherokee chief but not until after the chief was sold since summer had not really arrived here yet. the roof is your biggest source of noise next to your wheel wells and door panels. the more you can put down and thicker and well adhered it is across the vast metal surfaces the more your will dampen. think of those long metal surfaces as giant drums amplifying the smallest noises
I did put dabs of silka flex window caulking/sealant. sticky *** crap over each one of the screw heads for the roof bars just as an extra percaution to try and end the endless seapage of water into thee cab of this thing.
kinda nice now though i shut a door and instead of a clunk i get a dull thud

Thanks DUSTY!
How did you handle the firewall inside; both at foot level and behind the dash?
Did you use carpet on the floor? Or can you use Rhino Line over this stuff?

I had a customer on a 65 mustang lay down an offbrand dynomat and then sprayed lizzard skin over it, then installed his carpet. It stuck real well and deadened the sound a bunch. It was overkill to the extreme but he was glad he did it while it was apart the first time.

All good suggestions here is another
Allot of stuff out there - here is another
http://www.quietcar.net/
I know through my shopping for bed liner I have kinda come to the conclusion that rhino lining outfits seem to come and go pretty often
open/close shop - I feel that line-X backs there product better and the company appears allot more stable then rhino lining and is as good or better product.
Good Luck

Thanks again DUSTY!
RALVES ... Overkill IS me! What is Lizzard Skin? Maybe I should just google it and not be lazy. lol
BADABOOM ... thanks for the link. I'll hafta check it out. As far as rhino-liner goes it was just a generic term to use, but thanks for the input on the Line-X. I'll hafta check that out too.

I think line x not only looks better but is far superior than any other spray liner. i mean heck the pentagon sprayed it on their walls after 9 11 because its literally bomb proof! Downside is its pretty expensive

my opinion is i dont think youll get much better sound proofing than a product like dynamat over any metal you can get it on and a mass backed carpet.

What about all 3?
Linex on the bottom, the dynamat over that, then carpet? If you really want to go overkill, add the rubber under the carpet too. Lol
Then fill in most of the open spaces with expanding foam insulation

Thanks GALLION SW ... I'm not worried about which product is better but rather which product, if any, will go on top of the sound deadener like dyna mat.
SUZQ044 ... I wonder if Line-X, or any of them, are smooth enough to get good adherance with the dynamat stuff.
RALVES ... thanks

it should be fairly easy to get the stuff to adhere, given how heavy the stuff is, and that it hangs upside-down pretty easily without falling in your face.. lol
I'm just assuming that it'd be fine. Also, I emailed a line-x dude, a long time ago - he said you could actually sand it down if u wanted to smooth it out. You might have to do 2 coats tho, to have the thickness you would want, after sanding; which I'm guessing would take a while, and be fairly labor intensive.. LOL
