A FSJ Year

Lets see, so far in 2010 My waggy had a very large branch try to kill it, a smaller one failed also, someone stole my gas cap and emptied the tank, the rattlecan paint job got ruined, water pump bearings gave out- completely, couldn't fix the a/c because one thing after another would go out, heater/defrost is not working, radiator gave out and this evening while it was only in the mid 30 degree wet weather the battery gave out. It has been a typical FSJ year! Happy new year to all and lets be careful out there. We have jeeps needing us to be there to care for them.

2010

Changed the cam, big mistake. Had to go back to carb to make it drivable. Fixed the tailgate rattle and alignment. Changed gearing to 356, wow that worked! Got stuck for the first time in the waggy. Only pulled out a toyota matrix.
Next year, better cam, the return of EFI and hopefully paint! And I'm going to go somewhere, anywhere hopefully to hang with other FSJ freaks!

Lets see...
J-10, rear axle swap, t-case swap twice, carb swap twice, front bearings, and numerous tires.
The wifes GW, 2 t-case swaps, tranny swap, front axle swap, TBI fuel pump, fuel guage probs(still working on), tailgate wiring issues, sunroof leaks, and a positive bat cable.
J-20, finished engine install, TBI install, hydroboost, had running until the water pump gave out, now sits.

Yes, a very FSJ year...

Happy new year to everyone here...

I bought my 89 waggy exacly a year ago for the specific purpose of getting through the snow. Wiper linkage was stripped so it was useless for that purpose and sat all year. The last three weeks it has seen a lot of tinkering with a new radiator, fixed wiper linkage and tons of misc wires hooked back up, it is slowly coming back to life. It even got the family to church last week when we woke up to a flat on our daily driver.

It's gonna be a good year for the FSJ!

Okay:
I got my first truck, Setsuna, registered this year.

Had my first blowout.

Took my first 750 mile, 18 hour trip from Gardnerville, NV to Mesa, AZ

Got my first job delivering pizzas

Blew my first engine

Replaced my first engine (with some help)

Pulled a Hyndai, a Dodge Durango, and a Ford F150

Got pulled by a Ford Bronco, Mitsubishi Mighty Max, Chevy S10, Ford F150, F250, and a Subaru.

Drove in snow, rain, on icy roads, through woods, and deserts.

Lets hope 2011 has more in store for us

Let see... well, it went kinda like this:
At the beginning of summer, we upgraded the 401 in Phoebe with new lungs and mechanical timing. Ended up also replacing rockers, bridges and push rods. Polished up some slots with nice 31s and put 'em on. Then I rebuilt the rear axle and put all new brakes on her. Then we took her to AZ and rolled her. Yeah, I am ready for 2011.

Well, I got my J10 out of a long-term storage...towed it from Okla to IL and got the same mileage towing it with my Silverado that I would have gotten had I driven the Jeep...

It guess it was so excited, it couldn't hold it's fluids...the front output seal on the t-case piddled all over the place...

Started out strong, new cam, built spare tire carrier for rear, went through everything trying to make it bulletproof. Ram assist on the steering. Took her out for our 5 day family vacation and wheeling trip. 1st day, brother in law drives his 87 wag into the river up to drivers window. I go to pull him out and 4wd won't engage. Get them both out of the river, get mine in 4wd and let his dry out some. Make it about a mile and grenade my th400. Yank the jeep over to an appropriate camp spot. On craigslist looking for tranny. Day 2 find tranny, 300 mile round trip to pick it up. Swap tranny on trail, including the super fun part of lifting trans into place and holding it there until wife and brother in law get the bolts in. Day 3 great day wheeling, unseated a bead but reseated in place with starter fluid. Camp and relax for 1st night of vacation. Day 4 short highway drive to next trail. Won't shift out of low range? Long highway drive at 35mph. Next trail super difficult. Front output disengaging. Steep climbs very difficult. Invert a spring. Bend it back and keep going. Brother in laws starter dies. Put my starter in his jeep and wait for them to go ahead and find a camp spot. An hour later, my wife comes walking back. Brother in law left my starter on his hood and drove wrangler all the way back, so he turned around to go get it. Finally put starter in jeep, t-case only has 2wd, attempting a nasty hill climb and rear drive shaft breaks, and punches a hole in the gas tank. When trying to roll jeep back down hill, crush a tail light into a tree and cave in passenger door. While hi-lifting back of jeep away from tree, jack gets jambed up, while trying to un-jamb it, it unloads and breaks my left hand on rear bumper. Finally get jeep off of the trail and head for camp. Walk back to jeep and put old t-case in so I can drive home with front driveshaft. Low range won't engage. 2wd high half way down trail tranny cooler line breaks. By the way we are sharing the stater. Swapping it while jeep is running. Finally get off the trail and drive it home. 10 miles from home stop for gas and she won't start. Tow $60 I'm to tired to deal with it. A tranny, to q-tracs, drive shaft, tranny cooler line, tail light, 2 doors, and my left hand. Can't wait to do it again in 2011(don't tell the wife).

Dealin' with similar problems right now, friend.

My first day of 2011 will be spent pulling my radiator for inspection.

Happy new year everyone.

EDIT: 2010 was my first year as a Full Size Jeeper.

Learned loads from rustywagoneers doin the engine swap, tweaked up my shift linkage, did some rust blasting, some underbody coating, mass cleaning, changed out water pump which led to the radiator inspection.

Little things. Gotta start somewhere.

It too was my first year with a FSJ. My 91 Wag was in fair shape when I got it but the tires were nearly transparent. I had a 4 hour ride to get it back home, lets just say it was very thrilling and very scary my first trip with the Wag. Replaced my rear end thanks to MRTAZWRENCH, tore up a driveshaft but all in all I have had worse. To another year!

2010 started with a broken ring. Fixed that and, while the truck was down:
1. 4 barrel swap with Q-jet and manual choke.
2. reworked a fan shroud.
3. D27 got disc brakes.
4. rhino grill and fog lights.
5. complete rewire with fuse block
and relays for lights and tailgate.
More to come once the Impala is paid off.
