NEWBIE FROM COLORADO SPRINGS

Hi guys,

My name is Mike and I just bought my first jeep, a 1988 Grand Wagoneer.
I am no stranger to cars having worked on a 1951 chevy truck and my current sled/ daliy driver a 1953 Buick, but this is my first foray into the 4wd club.
I will be learning to make a car go up, (lift) not down... And I am learning the joys of 80's mechanicals. I am here to learn from you guys so I will ask lots of questions. I just drove my jeep home from denver... she is rust free but needs a tune up and some love... photos to follow soon...
Plan is to make her a good driver, then lift enough to put 33s 0r 35s a nice gear rack etc etc.... I want a great mountain family rig...
cheers,

m

I drove her 75 on the highway, she needs a tune bad, stumbles quite a bit. we thought we had her dialed in and she ran GREAT but then went back to her old self...rough idle... stumbles on accleleration, wants to die at lights...etc. etc...needs paint bad... interior is decent...drivers seat has rips... and almost all the window regulators don't want to raise the windows up or down...but hey for $700 I cannot complain

sticky? What would be a good way to remedy this?
She has 104K on the odometer but I guess it sat for 5 years.
I changed the oil and adjusted the carb.... it was fine for a while...sometimes it feels like the tranny is not kicking down....
I dunno, I have lots to sort out and a new creature with new quirks

Dump a bottle of Marvel Mystery Oil in the fill tube, seafoam in the gas.

The Edge... there is no honest way to explain it because the only people who really know where it is are the ones who have gone over.

I agree with Ryan, if that works right away then plan on a valve job soon. It's like night and day once you do it.

As far as the tranny, Lucas makes a good additive for that, but also check the transmission linkage before you pour it in. On your year it'll have a TF727 which has a manual kick-down. May just need to come on harder by making the linkage shorter at 3/4 throttle. A good way to ensure this is to get a throttle spring and pin the kick-down arm all the way back to the gear selection arm. If it shifts hard and at the top of your RPM then it's working. Use this only as a test, please don't leave it like that.

I was in Colorado Springs yesterday and saw three GW's in less than a mile right around the King Soopers on Uintah. I think maybe they're multiplying down there. Anyway - welcome!
